when you say publisher you mean the content creator not a publishing company right?
sounds like a dumb question I'm just 2x checking.
 
Did Machinima release you from their Contract? Just asking since a Friend of my wanted to leave them too and I told him before he starts searching for any new Network that he first should talk with Machinima and a few Days later he did returned with a better Contract then he had before.

I would recommend going direct with a network instead of a CA, as direct will increase your revenue share. Additionally I would highly advise targeting a network listed in the top 50 on SocialBlade. Networks out of that range will have little experience dealing in channels of your caliber.

* CA meaning all of its fancy terms such as VN, 'proprietary network', etc.
