2000 subs overnight!

Wow man that is actually phenomenal. That site obviously loved your content and has given you a massive boost in audience. Congratulations on crossing the new subscriber milestone :)
Thank you. Yes I was very pleased though it was all very surreal. It's encouraging to keep doing it.

Congratulations. I watched your "Welcome" video and it was very impressive. I can see you would be successful even without that unexpected boost.

Thank you, that's really nice of you to say.[DOUBLEPOST=1482168553,1482168503][/DOUBLEPOST]You now how they say your first 1000 subs are the hardest. Well since then the dubs have doubled again.. so now I've passed 4k. Much pleased.

Thanks all again for the kind words.

Congratulations. That's a fantastic achievement. You're over 4,200 now.

We all need a bit of luck in getting linked in that manner, but that's only half the battle. From looking at your channel trailer and some of your videos you can see that you are publishing some great content. The black and white footage is really good and audio quality is high in every video. So it's no surprise your channel is growing fast.

Keep up the good work :)

Kevin

That's incredible! 4,000 now! Hopefully those people are ones to stick around and watch your future videos.
Thanks, I hope so too :)[DOUBLEPOST=1482174915,1482174858][/DOUBLEPOST]

Thanks for the feedback Kevin. I try my best :)

I learnt about the audio thing a long time ago. People will tolerate bad video if the audio is good, but not the other way round.

Out of interest, what are you using to record audio? I'd love to pick your brain on this :)

My Zoom H6 recently broke. Rather than purchase another large audio recorder I opted for a smaller Sony dictation machine (you can see a video of it on my channel). It seems good and is really useful in many situations. I still have to do some audio tests to see if I can get the settings right for different recording scenarios etc, but I suspect that the mics might not be good enough in some situations so I might purchase another audio recorder for those occasions.

For voiceovers I use a directional microphone called Samson Q2U.. which is just awesome and not too expensive. It only pics up audio from one direction and has a high cut-off curve so as you move away from the mic, the volume cuts away quickly. The result is a nice background noise cancellation effect.

One the move I use a lapel mic - the Smartlav +, which I plug into my iPhone. I sync the audio later.

When I don't have either of these, I just put my iphone in my shirt pocket and grab the audio from there. It's always better than the camera audio.
