I hit 2 milestones in the last couple of days.

100'000 Subcribers
&
40'000'000 views

Its taken 3 and a half years and around 300 videos.

Very steady and gradual for the first 2 years until I hit my first 'gateway' video which sent my numbers soaring.
That video has poor SEO and the only reason it now has over 10m views is due to its 'clickbait' thumbnail.
Around 10% of my videos have clickbait thumbnails. Guess which videos are more popular..
And actually I dont use 'clickbait' thumbnails anymore as I dont really need to. Although if I did...?

Its more steady again today (Perhaps due to no clickbait) but I continue to schedule my bi daily videos hoping to hit another 'gateway'.

For me it was luck. Sorry I dont have any secret forumla. (Other than a sparringly used cheeky clickbait thumbnail)

My only advice would be to keep to an upload schedule and engage with your viewers.

Thanks - I do look forward to getting my silver play button. This has always been my ultimate dream. I will never see the gold one but I am fine with that.

You might reach it! Think positive! ^-^ I've noticed that Youtube's growth has a tendency to be exponential -- so it might feel like ages to reach one milestone, but then doubling the same amount tends to happen a lot faster. It doesn't always happen...but it's something I've noticed happening often. :)

Congratulations, massive achievement! Hope you will get your play button faster than me, it took them 2 months after I hit 100K subs to send me the message I can order one. I ordered on August 2nd for the first channel and on September 6th for the second channel (I requested it the moment they sent me the code) but still waiting for both to be shipped :(
Hope you have yours before the end of the year!
