Zoom H1 Or Rode Video Mic Pro?

Don't plan on using the H1 as a mic - it's a recording device (it has a mic attachment, but it's not particularly good). You'd want to use the H1 in conjunction with, say, a lav mic. So budget for that.

for a DSLR I want to say the Rode, not only because it "better" but because it's able to attach to the shoe mount on the camera. I know theres some adapters for the rode h1 but I've heard some mix things about it. But don't get the videomic pro thought just get the videomic. the pro has too many issues from the bands that I hear snap all the time to a really short and thin cable.

Gotta disagree RE: videomic pro.

I'm running on a 650D, and the circuitry is a bit wonky inside the camera. So if you plan to record into the DSLR, you're going to want the +20dB on the videomic pro, so you can take the gain down on the camera. Otherwise, expect a consistent hiss.

hmm I've heard about that. I forgot that it had the +20dB on the pro.

To your point, the bands are a little fragile, but I tend not to take the Rode Pro down anyway, so it's a non-issue. The cable is short, but long enough to reach the camera (and if it were longer, there'd be risk of interference).

Anyways, I'd say if you don't go with the Pro, don't use it with the DSLR. ...which pretty much means buying an H1 anyway. Heh.
