if youtube introduces a payment system and there is no way to change this, we can all as a community join together and create another youtube together. we can have backgrounds and banners and everything we want. we can even change our own layouts.

Correct, Businesses do create videos right now, such as Vat19. They currently DO NOT have the ability to charge for the views that WE are giving them, that WE created by building this website full of videos, that WE subscribe and support.

This website was built on users, creating content, in a free and equal market. This movement to paid views is a direct attack on the free users that built this billion dollar website for them.

It does not affect anyone. It is not a "Direct attack" on the free users. If you take that approach, then every video promoting a product is a direct attack.

Yup, ever since Google took over.

YouTube wouldn't be what it is today without Google. For a while it was actually losing money and probably isn't making much money right now either. Regardless of what people say about Google, it made YouTube great.

the thing is they've had movie renting features for ages.. so really it's not going to make much difference.. if anything I think it could be good because we could then get things likes sky movie subscriptions (random example) because of this new pay to subscribe thing they're making :)
I see downsides as well.. like if a youtuber gets cocky and tries to use this feature on his/her channel.. but hopefully they won't make it available to everyone :) it's just like netflix and lovefilm.. but built into youtube. I'm not going to even worry about it.

YouTube wouldn't be ANYTHING without us ;)

I don't think this is really going to happen... Although they do have a system where you can have people pay to watch a certain video already implanted

This would work well for cable shows. Imagine if the only show you care about is The Walking Dead. Instead of paying an 70 bucks for 100 channels that you don't need, you can pay 5 bucks a month to watch AMC shows.

...or Google. Or the businesses that advertise.

Google bought YouTube as a remotely useless website, at the time, they saw a future in it.

The price makes YouTube Inc., a still-unprofitable startup, by far the most expensive purchase made by Google during its eight-year history. Last year, Google spent $130.5 million buying a total of 15 small companies.

Businesses that advertise, especially on each video is a relatively new feature in the history of YouTube, something that was set as fully public only in March of 2012.

YouTube was merely a shell for users like us to upload and create content. It provided a base for a profitable website, although I agree, without YouTube in the first place we wouldn't exist, but it's a chicken and an egg situation as Google, or YouTube, can put as much money as they want into their YouTube shell, while we create the reason, and the drive for people to watch videos, click advertisers banners, and more.

I'm just trying to get across that we should remember that we are the true creators on YouTube.
