YouTubers selling merch

I think they just have them available for anyone who may or may not want their merch, but if people don't want it, it's the channel's problem, because they are the one losing money.

It's a win - win for most bigger channels, Fans get Shirts and show support, and creators get more revenue. Channels like Phillip Defranco create merch on like a weekly basis for their fan base so you really can tell when a creator cares for their fans. It's not about self-importance its just about having a business strategy. Some people i'll admit do it as a trend, but others really know what they are doing. It's hard to make a living off YouTube Revenue. lol most people don't pull PewdiePie numbers.

I think selling merch is awesome for someone with enough subs. Sure, there are some who might not even care what they are selling and just want money. However, I love creating things (even if I'm not amazing at it) so I live for the day I can sit at my craft desk and make buttons or something with a cheese logo on it haha.
With that said, I don't think it's worth it to start selling anything or even using patreon unless you have 100+ subs. I would also start small and see how things sell. Unless money and ego aren't a problem. I would hate to make awesome merch and nobody buy it.
