Biggest thing since the wheel!
Hey guys, so recently I've been trying to a job and was wondering if any of you guys have had trouble with keeping with your channel while having a full-time job. Up until now, I have been spending 100% of my time and YouTube and I would've liked to keep it that way; but unfortunately I cannot keep that up anymore.

So, have you had to sacrifice your channels for you jobs?
 
I sacrificed some time, and I feel I have little time for Youtube. I try to publish my videos at the same rate, but with less production time. Trying to compensate it with creativity; try to find a way for higher audience retention with less time....
 
I started my channel while employed at my current job, so I planned my time around it. I do a lot of my recording on the weekends and just schedule them accordingly through the week. I have very little free time, but I enjoy what I do, and I think that's the main thing.

I was doing full time work and full time school at one point, still was able to upload because of my type of videos. Now that I actually go through and edit them it takes a lot longer, so I'm not able to upload very often. I mostly do my stuff on weekends when my girlfriend is working or sleeping. I have some stuff I shot last weekend that I have still not got around to, my girlfriend works Saturday and Sunday so this weekend I'll sift through last weekend's footage. I was testing out my ISO settings at the dog park and the bowling alley, I think I found the secret to ultra clear videos on my GoPro. I'll have to compare the quality to similar videos to see if I'm right.

That is a good way to compensate. It might be fun but it also seems like it could get exhausting.

Yeah, as long as you enjoy it; it should be something that you should never give up. That is the position I'm in right now.I'm just worried about time at this point.

I guess I'll have to accept my videos not coming with the same efficiency. That is going to suck.
 
Having YouTube as main job would be great...
Unfortunatelly.. that is not possible, not yet :)
I think that You have to become "a name" before You could think that way..

Anyway.. having a "plan B/C" is the best way =]
I could dedicate 100% of my time to YouTube but what if, for some reason, YT would close..... :artist:

So I decided to upload vids ar least 1 for week but have not defined the day =]
 
Yea, man. It's really hard. I'm balancing a full-time job, an independant game development project, and my channel. Part of the reason why my uploads are so inconsistent and I barely have time to promote so my channel isn't really going anywhere. It really sucks but hey, that's life. Gotta manage time however you can to accomplish the things you want to do.

Most of the posting I do on here is at work haha... I wish I could edit video while working but I feel like my boss wouldn't take too kindly to that.
 
I hear you. I'm a full time teacher (which gives me some time in the summer). I'm also a married daddy to two little ones. And I'm going to get another grad degree. In the middle of this I decided it was a great time to start a channel. I definitely have to sacrifice to make it work. I can only film and edit from the time the little ones are down. So to say I'm a little exhausted would be an understatement.

You need to find what works for you. It's different for everyone. If this is what you want to do, you will find a way.
