YouTube Vs. Personal Life

jnet

I Love YTtalk
Just curious how people feel about this. So I do not really share my videos with friends and people I actually know. Recently as one of my friends started getting into making videos it was sort of revealed that I make videos for YouTube as well. Occasionally people find me through searching for guinea pig tricks.

It always feels kinda weird, like embarrassing, because my content was not intended for them. And they get a look into my personal life. When I first started dating my boyfriend on one of our earliest dates he told me that he had searched for American Eskimo Dog videos and found me on YouTube and watched tons of my videos!! I felt like he knew everything about me before I knew much about him..

Have you guys experienced something similar? How did you feel?

Well actually our first subscribers were family and friends. So we have always told people about the show. And since my kids come on occasionally their grandparents and extended family watch just to see if they show up. I guess I don't understand the idea of not telling those I am closest too something I enjoy doing. It would be like secretly really enjoying steak yet being afraid to tell someone I like steak.

At first I thought about hiding it. It's also a reason why the channel is called AmbossTV and not my real name (Although Amboss and my name are kinda linked anyway...it was more for e.g. headhunters/recruiters who might google my name to not find that stupid stuff...haha). But then I realized more and more that it is good fun to work out my content FOR my friends instead of an anonymous audience. I like all the new subs but it's also great to just be able to meet real friends in person and ask them what they liked and disliked about the latest videos. Then of course you also need to accept that you can't please everyone. One of my best friends liked my first Fifa videos. Then I rebooted the channel because I felt more like making real life scenes. He kept bugging me with "baaaa...your old videos were better" and it really bothered me but I am over it now.

I'm kinda in the same boat but recently I have started posting videos on my facebook. I rarely use facebook nowadays anyways so whatever lol.

Well yes and no, sometimes I do feel a bit embarrassed when telling certain people, but for lots of people (for me it's actually the people closer to me I feel more comfortable telling) I enjoy telling them. I also have my job occupation on FB as content creator for Youtube and occasionally posted some of my videos up there :D. I just try to avoid telling them my sub count :P.

It is a little embarrassing when people find my videos but I'm not too bothered since I usually get a couple of subs from it.

I get what you mean. It's kinda with me and drawing. I don't want people I see everyday to see my stuff, but people online to do so. I don't know, it's kinda weird having people tell you how good you are, even though you have a mentality that's the opposite.

The only person who knew when I originally started was my boyfriend because I lived with him. Once I gained a couple hundred subs, I told my immediate family (Mom, Brother, Sister). Once I was in the couple of thousands, I told only a handful of my close friends. Besides that, no one else knows. I don't post my videos to any of my personal social accounts. I would rather keep my YT life and my real life separate to people who don't know me well. I'd rather not be judged possibly by friends and coworkers who don't really understand why I do my channel & also who don't know I'm not actually AS crazy as I am in my videos in real life. :-P
