My thumbnails usually show up pretty quickly - well for me anyways.
I use annotations quite often in the outro - check the video in my sig, I've used it a fair bit to point to other videos.

I've found they update sooner for me the sooner i upload the thumbnail after the video is uploaded :]

That's very true, I tend to upload my thumbnail as soon as the video has been uploaded. Seems to update quickly that way
