Youtube Upload Timing! [Good advice]

Hey guys!

If you have a youtube channel that isn't aimed for just one area there is a big chance that you have viewers from many different time zones. This post is to help you find the best time to post your videos.

ok, so to do this you need to know where most of your views are coming from. To see this you need to get in to the Analytics section on youtube. An easy way to get there is to go to "video mananger" then on the left side you will find a text saying "ANALYTICS" just click on that.

Well here you just have to scroll down to "user statistics". here you will see a small map with some text on the side, click on that.​
Now my top 3 view-generating countries are U.S.A, Sweden and Netherlands. Since i have a country that takes more than 1 timezone on this i need to click on that country to see what (in this case) states have most views. For me these are Massachusetts and North Dakota.​

The reason i take the top 2 states is because my 2 other countries have the same timezone.​

Now go to a time zone converter that can convert the time into multiple timezones. I use the one at timeanddate.com, if you want to use this click this link:

(i am not allowed to insert links)

So here i start by putting in my own timezone at the top. Then i add the 2 others.
This gives me the ability to find a time of the day good enough for people in all 3 timezones.

I dont see the point.

Subscribers will receive email notification of your video anyway - so that rules them out.

If you are trying to target others in your chosen timezone, how do you possibly expect to do that?? You are assuming your video will be available in YouTube search straight away, and that people in hat time zone are searching for that type of video, at that time of day, on the day of upload??

In my opinion, this isnt like eBay where timing matters. Subscribers will receive notification of a new upload. All others will be able to search for it when it gets ranked into YouTube search results.
Ive tried uploading at various days and times in the past - it makes absolutely no difference whatsoever. The only scenario where you want to upload at a certain day and or time is when you have promised your subscribers a weekly video on a certain day, for example. You need to keep that promise as your subscribers may be expecting the video on that day etc. Otherwise, for everyone else, it makes no difference.

It does work though. I post my videos 9:30pm GMT, because my highest view count is from the Ohio, New York, etc regions so uploading at 9:30pm my time, means it's approx 7:30pm their time. Why does this help? Sure they get a notification, but it means that when they get home from school/work, have eaten their dinner and settled down on the laptop my video pops up brand new at the top of their subs list (you can view a page that shows all new videos from subscribers). I strongly believe my high views are partially caused by the time I upload :)

Well, I don't know anyone who uses the email notification thing, i turned it off completely while some of my friends just ignores them. The biggest reason i posted this is because i am subscribed to a lot of people and most of the ones from like the u.s will post when it is very late here, so i never see most of them until they post something from a series i follow on a good time and i realize i have missed a few episodes.

If i don't remember wrong the YT Playbook says timing is important too. So yes, it is a good thing to time your videos.
 
Whenever I come online I check my subscriptions and I watch the videos that everyone recently uploaded. If they upload at 3 am, 9pm or during the day, I don't really care...

You either watch or you don't watch, no?
 
Isn't the on-demand nature of YouTube (the internet in general) is what's putting TV in misery? It's because you can watch whenever you want. If you want something for people the day before, sure it's nice to have it ready for them in the morning, but even if they couldn't watch it in the morning, they can watch it in the afternoon or evening. They could even wait a couple of days.

Wow this is actually quite a valid point that I did not think of.
But then again I think I don't really have enough viewership that this would make a difference yet. lol.
