Oh, that clears it up. Thanks. I didn't get who's subscribers were supposed to be private for you not to receive e-mails... So, if the person who subscribes to you keeps her subscriptions private, you won't receive an e-mail about the fact that he/she has subscribed to you...

Go to your channel, go to about. Scroll down under Featured Channels, there will be "subscriptions", if that is marked as private, then no one can see who you're subscribed to, and an email won't be sent when you sub to someone
