Youtube should remove 'subscribe' instead put something that invites people

I think the best way to make people engage with your content is to 'connect with audience first, but i think if you scare them in first place no one connects with YOU.. So the word 'subscribe' is used everywhere from newsletter to spam lists to scare people away to connect to you and they would be in the opinion 'subscribe' invites a scary intent to bomard them with something they dont want.

Also it looks its a subscription service' which is also bad way to represent.. because everything we do is free and it should not sound commercial sounding.

For example in real world- if you met a person and you want them to be in touch wheather personal, business or anything you always say more intresting words to connect rather just saying lets subsribe to each other..

So really this subscribe word is used for services which asks to pay for something like 'magazies' which will cost you yearly or monthly. But Youtube is free and subscribe doesn't make any sense to say to people 'subscribe' to me to receive more.. the more friendlier, the more homely people feel to connect with you not as professional as it looks. Subscribe is not a word to use with real people.

They say do your work and people will JOIN U not subscribe U..

So,

Here in Youtube using SUBSCRIBE makes more harder for people to make sense to connect with you because its scaring them to the thought that it involves seeing what they don't want to see in the future and getting unwanted crap into their 'my subscriptions' or just invites unfriendly connecting attitude and sounds very commercial.

In the future if someone asks has how many audience you have with your channel. You have to proudly as i have X member not X subscribers. Subscribe for me Looks so unprofessional in the real world.

Instead they should word it as 'connect with me' or 'join my channel as member' or something more friendly.. what do you yttalkers think and can we bring a change to let youtube know this isn't working because community needs warm invitation to connect instead of putting them off to connect with you...

Hmmmm...........I don't think there's anything wrong with 'Suscribe' personally. And well 'Join'....is used in the E-harmony commercials. "Join us for *cough* 'free' today!". (It's not a free service at all lol..to get the full package) It's also used to gyms...Join the gym! In my Gardens of Time game that I play on FB..it says "Join the inner circle!" Which..you have to pay for every month.

I think everyone who uses Youtube knows it's a free service. I doubt the word subscribe word is scaring anyone off in my honest opinion :)

You could use CONNECT or JOIN COMMUNITY

I think subscribe sounds just fine though. And I don't see what a petition what do. And it's a daft thing to campaign about.

If you don't like the world subscribe you could just not say it. Just say join my community or connect or something

I've heard the phrases 'subscribers' and 'subscriptions' used pretty consistently alongside the word YouTube so its my guess that they'll probably stay interlinked. It's only when you become involved in a creator's content then you're likely to recognize YouTube as more of a community than a site. I would say use whatever words you feel more comfortable using but in terms of change, I can't see it happening.

Personally I think it could be any word and people would still use it and be fine with it. It has been subscribe for so long everyone using the site knows what it means, it is also typical lingo on the internet. I think say if they had picked a random word like carrot from day 1 people would still understand and it would still work(due to repetition etc). I don't understand why you have issue with the word. :p

It just wouldn't be right in my opinion, when you say subscribe, most people think youtube, when you say follow, most people think Instagram or twitter. Yeah it will get in, but probably after a year or more.

I think it should say 'CONNECT' in that red big box.. to invite people to connect. Twitter says follow and they are followers but here subscribers are formal and they just view the channel as subscribers.. but many channels have managed to turn subsribers into followers. Now to make them your followers they should 'connect' not subscribe and unsubscribe..

if they wanted to unsubscribe they could put a word saying.. disconnect and just people feel and think to disconnected first and its human way not to disconnect any connecting.. unless it goes so wrong..

I think it should be that way

I wish you could customise what your subscription button says.
So mine would say "Free Cookies!"

And then I would get a million subscribers.

I don't think there's anything wrong with SUBSCRIBE really, it's pretty much the only thing that hasn't changed on YouTube lol.
People know now that YouTube is free and that clicking SUBSCRIBE won't charge you anything.
