New videos have their advantage when it comes to SEO. So while the video is new it might be ranked higher for certain keyword searches, once the video is old (not showing the ''new'' tag next to the video) youtube sees if the video has caught up with other similar videos and if not then pushes it back down. And i've noticed this myself it happens all the time.
Weird. I feel like my older videos for some reason get really popular all of a sudden while my new ones have a nice influx of new views to begin with (probably my subscribers) but then stall out for about a month. It seems most of my stuff seems to get a lot of views consistently after a month has passed.
