I think they prefer to award people with more original content if they got 100k subs. But that's all up to them really.

Do you own the rights? If not you may not get the award. I know of one channel that posts clips of other people's videos and despite having more than 100k subs they're not receiving the award.
Well, I wouldn't be proud getting such an award if I got it because of stealing other people's work.Look up the channel with the user "vinebests" He posted vine videos that aren't his, some got copyright claims I think, and he still got a YouTube play button

I think 100K subs is just a requirement for the silver play button and they don't really look what kind of content you have. Would be awesome to recieve one though!

I never expected for the video with 15 million views to actually go viral... Since then I've been uploading other videos with completely my content. Because I am doing this, although those new videos are not too popular, maybe I would still be able to qualify. Fingers crossed!
