YouTube isn't for everyone.

Just as a supporting argument. No #1 search result for this and "How to get big on ______"

I've always wanted to be famous on Tumblr. :P

I would be interested to find out just how many youtubers lose interest before they manage to gain 1k subs
This would be very interesting to find out. I'm not included though, because I still technically have interest in making videos.

Everyone can improve and have the kind of channel that gets viewers, and be entertaining in some way. No, everyone can't be number one, however, that's not how everyone defines personal success. I'd keep improving. If I'm monotone I'll practice. If I'm bad at promotion I'll work on it. If my editing, branding, etc sucks I can improve with research and practice.

Another thing is the "doing YouTube for the right reason" which is complete and utter nonsense. Whatever reason someone decides to do YouTube it's the right reason for them. If there is one persistent theory on this board I'd happily beat to death with a baseball bat is the constant "right reason" dribble.

YouTube is just a website owned by Google used make tons of money from advertising. It's a business and nothing more. Bottom line. So if someone wants a little fame, go for it. If someone wants a little pocket change. Make it happen. If someone wants more, work your butt off and you may or may not get it but you won't have any regret.

Just like everything else in life. Results will reveal themselves but how are people going to know unless they try.

I would suggest never letting people anywhere talk you out of your dreams. Dream big, work hard, and adjust as you go.
I think thats questionable about everyone being able to do it. Like there are some people who have been Youtub'in it for near enough to 3-5 years and would only gain a mere 40 subs....which to me kind of shows what is going down...

I am definitely one of those channels that won't "make it" but that's ok with me. I just do it because its fun, as corny as that sounds. I mean I'm sure most of us wish to do YouTube as a career, I'm one of them, but hey, if it's not ment to be I guess it's not ment to be. Doesn't mean you just give up. Kinda what the OP said. Just because you're not as good as Kobe or Lebron James doesn't mean you can't play basketball.

People who keep complaining that they deserve more, that they do everything perfect that they should be the most subscribe channel yadda yadda are the less one that deserve anything. It annoys me when they say that cause in all honestly they don't even put the effort of editing videos they just do like my professor told me "Anyone can edit is just cut and paste and move around to place the video" A lot of people just do that and expect to get big over night, that will never happen! The only way for that to happen is that you are known by millions and they go to your channel watch your video and subscribe and that is impossible unless you're Obama or some singer or artist that everyone knows and you promote yourself on tv or a concert or something.

Anyways the point is like everyone has mention before, you can work hard at editing and try to do everything perfectly but not everyone can be #1 like mentioned before Some are born leaders others followers. Geebus honestly for me having 10 views makes me happy because I know someone took time from their day to sit down and watch one of my videos! Just because I don't get 1,000 views on all my videos or have a million subs means I will stop and complain I will just keep doing it because I love it and it's fun to do it! even if I get 1 view and it's from my mom I don't give a crap! Is fun!

Seriously though...This is entertainment...all you people who say "I started this as a hobby" or "I am happy with maintaining a small audience" probably only adapted that mind set because it hasn't worked out so far.....

That's what I think too. I think some or most of those people think it's virtuous as well to be small and not get anywhere.

Sports is a good analogy. I like to use musicians. There are lots of talented people but not everybody can have a #1 hit.

I have been listening to the Ear Biscuits podcast. It is from YouTubers Rhett and Link. They are up to episode 23 with popular YouTubers appearing on their program such as The Fine Brothers, Grace Helbig, Harley Morenstein, Shay Carl and Brittani Louise Taylor. These people have a lot of experience, background or talent before coming to YouTube and everything came together. They were in the right place at the right time.

The musicians playing the more "complex" music rarely sell much of anything, so it's a poor analogy if your idea is that talented youtubers are the ones getting views.
As I've mentioned it depends on each individual viewer (and listener in music's case.) to decide how "good" they find something, a piece or video you find "dry" may be incredible or at least interesting to another.

Everyone seems to be under the impression that they can quickly tell what's "good" or "bad" (just look at all the viewers at home watching "Idol", "has got talent" or "xfactor". What people don't realize is half the things they're instantly noting as inferior others may see or at least perceive as being a superior form of art.

So It's not really similar to sports and I don't agree with your musical analogy (not because I don't believe it's a perfect subject to compare it to, I just don't agree with how you've compared it.)[DOUBLEPOST=1394786956,1394786545][/DOUBLEPOST]
Exactly. If people want to do it for the money, who is to say that is a bad reason? As long as you are working hard at it--and when I say work, I mean actual work and research not whining about why one's content sucks and asking for handouts or sympathy on forums because of it--whether it be to become rich off Youtube or have something to do for fun, go for it.

The only thing that annoys me is out of the people who do it out of money reasons, those who dive into it without researching and then go on to complain about not getting the results they want. Like you mentioned, if something is wrong with your content, you work at it and make it better with research and practice. I could start a chocolate bar business but I wouldn't dive into it and complain that no one wants to buy my chocolate a month down the road. I would do the necessary research and studying to see where I have to improve on and what kinds of things I have to be aware of while pursuing my business. That may include asking others for help but I think a lot of new Youtubers overlook the fact that there is a certain set of planning and development that goes into doing Youtube, and are inexperienced at doing it.[DOUBLEPOST=1394675273,1394675148][/DOUBLEPOST]
Yeah, I was being nice when I chose 50%. Haha, well said... :laugh2:

One of the most popular videos in Australia is of an idiot licking cream off another boy's chest..... another is a panda sneezing, research is irrelevant, it just depends on who's watching and whether or not they tell their friends.
