YouTube isn't for everyone.

Inspired by a recent thread of discussion I feel the need to post this. I think so many people come onto YouTube thinking that everyone can get a million subs and make a fortune from it.

I just want to put out there, like sports, YouTube does not have a "Everybody Wins" option. If you cannot play a sport well, you can try to get better and hone your skills , possibly leading to the big leagues...but in most peoples cases They will never make it no matter how hard they try.

YouTube is really no different. There are so many people out there who just copy the crowd hoping to get views and have the most dry personalities in the world. The worst thing about this is that these people expect to go places. I dunno, personally I would know if I wasn't entertaining enough and I would invest my time/money elsewhere.

What do you all think? Is YouTube every ones Oyster or should some people stick to their day jobs?

Sure, I agree. It's a rat race out there. Not everyone can win.
For those that play to win but don't (those doing it because they think they'll be an overnight sensation.) - No, Youtube does not work for them.
For people doing it for fun and as a hobby and put fame aside. Then yes, it'll work.
It's all about their personality.

I'd not say that not everybody wins, almost everyone wins, but some people are born to lead, other to follow.

Which means not everyone can be #1, but everyone can get subscribers and viewers.
Just needs a little work.

You can't do Youtube seriously and not have that "entertaining factor" about you, that is for sure...

As a matter of fact, I think 50% of the people on this forum do not have the determination, personality, or balls to do Youtube seriously.

That is why we have so many whiners around worried about their channel and moping about how bad things are.

That's not to say you shouldn't do it... It's just, don't expect too much.

At what point do you know that you will not be successful (I use the term very loosely)?

Youtube can be hit or miss for most people, some people are borderline and can go either way with influence.
In the end it's not unlike Idols audition I guess.

It's the people that start Youtube for the right reasons that usually rise to the top, or are successful. I have noticed that. Doesn't mean that they don't change, but they started to entertain or inform people. Youtube is filled with people who only care about one thing, money. If you do it because you like to, and you want others to see your content and hopefully enjoy it, then you have the right mindset. Money is good after all, but the feeling of making people happy, or informing them, etc depending on what types of videos you do, even if you don't know them, is better in my opinion. Doing it for a living is a plus. That isn't the only reason most people don't get it big, it is just a reason that comes to my mind recently.

Exactly, like before I meet people alot of them (locally) would judge me by my youtube videos...as me on/off the camera are two different shadows of ego

There are those "I sing in the shower and sound really good, and people have said I sing well" people auditioning for Idol; and when they don't get recognized or chosen they mope on about what went wrong...

Then there are those "I sing in the shower and sound really good, and people have said I sing well" people auditioning for Idol; and when they don't get recognized or chosen they keep doing what they do because it's fun...

Yeah that's why I said loosely.
Success means something else to everyone. For me it's improvement.
My channel tanks but each video is better than the last and that makes me happy.
I fall under (2)

One Word, WillPower. In most cases in life willpower is what makes us/breaks us or makes us better. Its amazing how a person can continue on in sports or war with something sprained or broken simply because their mindset says not to give up!
