YouTube Is Experimenting With YOUR Sub Box!

I feel like I noticed this update about a year ago?? It made me think that channels I watched more recently were popping up higher in my subscription feed -- which made me think engaging daily vloggers had a pretty big advantage.

I guess this might echo back to the whole "consistency is important" thing that a lot of people swear by...

Ethan Klein from h3h3Productions made a very good point about this:

“I say YouTube should stop wasting everybody’s time, remove the subscription button altogether, and just show us the content you want us to watch.” Given that YouTube already organizes users’ home pages and recommended sidebars in accordance with its algorithm, he notes that the subscription feed was the last bastion on the site where users could hope to have some level of direct control and ownership of content offerings.

He made a pretty good video on the subject:

Surely if this is completely optional as they claim it will be it makes little to no difference? Those who like it will use it, and those who don't won't! Seems fine to me!

The experiment is not affecting all youtubers is just some channels are getting affected to that

Another thing to keep in consideration, that seems rather alarming. Ben the Trusted Flagger, who is a trusted member of the YouTube Trusted Flagger program and well respected by the community put out a statement:

So while it may be an optional feature, YouTube might set it as the default feature. Which is very alarming, because most viewers would not even be aware of this as a feature. They'll just be watching what YouTube feeds them. Not too many people actively go out to mess around with their settings.

Chronological or death. Don't you dare add crap like BuzzFeed or other junk I'm not interested in to my feed. If I want to look at that, I'll click on the Trending tab.

I saw one YouTube employee review that talks about giving small channels more opportunity to appear on SEO, I think that's part of it aswell he says they are doing experiments on that

Well this is promising to say the least. Hopefully it works out for all.

I do see the point from both sides; however, YouTube should be more transparent when they add or change existing features. On the side of YouTube optimizing subscribers content, shame on them. On the other hand, what if they decide to give notice to smaller channels and use this as the avenue? No matter what larger YouTube channels will always get the views, but what if they are doing this in efforts to make sure you watch the smaller channels first? I don’t know quite yet.

Youtube doesn't care about what subscribers want or about smaller youtubers, they will do whatever will help them make more money. of course they are claiming it will be "optional", because they are trying to keep everyone calm. it will be defaulted and then eventually the option will go away. i honestly feel no loyalty to youtube either as a subscriber or creator, they consistently disappoint me and i can't wait for the day they have competition.
