YouTube has contacted me, offering consultation

For now I am just reciving generic emails with invitations for Halloween YouTube Tokyo Space party, links to online materials etc. etc. Nothing interesting.
Nothing interesting indeed. That doesn't sound like much "one on one advice" (as indicated by the invitation email I got).

I had this a year or so ago. A phone consultation by a YouTube Partnership manager.

Basically they look over your channel and suggest things to do, such as make sure thumbnail images are similar to each other so people know at a glance its from your channel, how to organise videos into Playlists, possible video ideas (such as showing your setup) and so on. Its all generic stuff really.

I found that they just state the obvious. Most of the stuff I had already done anyway. After the first phone consultation he said he would contact me again in a few weeks and work with me for a while. I didn't ever bother getting back in contact. Personally I found it a complete waste of time - a quick channel review from someone els eon here would have given me all the same, if not more, information.

Identity theft? WTF? please elaborate!
I´m guessing it´s the same with microsoft calling you to fix your computer!

It is very similar. They send you a link to install a plugin for their beta and all hell breaks lose on your computer and any info on it. To this day I still get calls and still need to change my phone number.

I've worked with a partner manager (I wasn't invited by email - I was referred to mine through a Youtube Creator Day event).

It's been useful - nothing groundbreaking but I'd certainly recommend taking advantage of it! He made me realize some things in my analytics I didn't realize were going on and gave me some tips on types of videos to make.

Some of it was stuff I could have found myself but didn't - like when he pointed out that my audience is primarily on mobile. It was a statistic I hadn't bothered looking at in a while, and it's actually leading me to change my strategy - from how big my facecam is to what types of games I play.

See how it works for you, and please report back! :D

I did this a couple of months ago (and at the time had about 99,000 less subs than 100k, so that's definitely not the threshold). To echo the general sentiment, if you're motivated enough to be on YT talk you know everything they are going to go over. Also, my partner manager is suuuuper flaky.

However, I would say it's worth it as it's not that time consuming (a couple 30 minute calls and some google hangout sessions with other creators if you want to participate in those) and then you have a dedicated contact/partner manager at YT who knows you and you are able to reach by phone or email with any questions or issues. I looked at it as expanding my professional network.

OH! Also, for those who were wondering, I asked how they chose channels to participate and was told that they have an algorithm that looks at sudden growth, sustained growth, and getting picked up in suggested videos.

Thanks, that was very helpful. I have quite a few questions that I need answering from them and I agree with you that the real value is having a contact name and number at YouTube. :)
