YouTube half hour show (thoughts)

offbeatbryce

I Love YTtalk
I would like to create a half hour show that features funny skits, funny commercials, etc. It will be me playing the different characters. Will people really watch it if it's a half hour long? I see videos that are well over an hour and have lots of views but not sure if it depends on the type of content or not.

Thanks

I think half an hour is way too long. Most people don't have a long attention span (generalising a lot here, I know) so they might skip through parts of the video if it is that long, I know I do. I think you should make the skits you were planning to do in the half hour video into separate videos, that way you have lots of content for your channel! :D

Half a hour is way too long. People usually has a terrible attention span, leaving your videos at a minute or something. Giving your retention rate like 3%, which kills your rankings....

Better is to give every sketch a own video, getting higher retention rates and thus higher rankings.

Unless you totally know how to keep your viewers engaged....

When you've already got your material segmented into sketches it might make more sense to make separate video - that being said in Becoming YouTube Ben Cook had lots of scenes and sketches linked with an overall theme, and some of those episodes lasted a half hour or more. Basically, if you think you can manage those very high production standards (and get big name YouTubers in etc.) then it's been proven to work...

In my opinion a half-hour is too long, you might get a low audience retention I mean Watch time*. I recommend you make separate videos and see how it goes from there. Not to mention it all depends on your quality of performances, good luck.

Watch time, not retention rate. YouTube uses a cumulative watch time calculation for pushing search rank and suggested. If retention was used, every search would be nothing but vines.

Viewers do not see YouTube as a long-format video destination.
You should be able to look at your current analytics (audience retention) to see if your current subscriber base would support longer videos.

As most people have touched upon, 30 minutes per video would definitely be tough to sustain an audience with, unless you're an incredibly popular YouTuber.
