What's going on guys? I have been using Photoshop for a while now, but I still do not feel very proficient in it. I was wondering if there was anyone who could lend me their tips and know-how to help me improve. Also, please ignore my current channel graphic as it is more of a placeholder, not really something I thought looked nice.

I would be very grateful if someone would contact me or point me into the direction of someone who can teach me stuff that would be beneficial as a YouTuber. I know my way around photoshop, I just need a good kick in the rear to get me going. :)

Thanks,
Sam

I'm fairly confident in my more recent uses of YouTube graphics, and can most likely give some tips&tricks regarding them. And seeing as you know your way around Photoshop, it'll make things a LOT easier.

I just need to know what you need help on. Thumbnails, banners, avatars, etc?

Well its more less the idea. Currently thumbnails are unavailable, and I'll probably use a photo as my avatar, so all that remains is the banner I guess. But really it boils down to finding a concept that works and successfully executing it. Some common do's and things to consider would be helpful as well, thanks! :)

Well, first you need to know what you want with your channel. You want it to seem professional? kids-friendly? Humorous? Serious? Etc.

Each set of style has a set of moods, which can be stuff like relaxing, calming, confident, strict, warm, raging, etc.
and again, each set of moods has a set of color palettes(I think that's the word). These generally consist of 3-4 colors and 1-2 focus-colors. No more than that.

Once you figure this out, you're pretty far ahead, and can easily make a pretty permanent banner for your channel

I suppose fun serious. I enjoy 3D typography but unfortunately my 3D features in Photoshop have stopped working because it can't detect my graphics card for some reason. I have C4D lite but I can't seem to figure it out. I think a banner that displays my name and possibly even a photo of me would be good. I want to brand my channel with graphics that are clear and professional, yet personal.

I say personal because I am going to be posting a lot of gaming content, but one thing I dislike about a lot of gaming channels (not all) is that they hide themselves behind the game and don't let their audience see them or get to feel a personal connection with them. I want my viewers to be able to put a face to my name and feel like they know me. Of course I don't NEED my face on my banner because it will be on my avatar, I just want something that is clean, professional, fun, and fitting to who I am and how I want to be thought of. Nothing flashy!

Also to add, just because I know my way around PS, does not mean I know how to get a certain or desired look.

EDIT: Sorry for posting twice! If there is a way to delete this post and add it to the last one, I will do that. I hate bumping my thread above others that may need attention.

You should check out lynda.com or tuts.com I just started using them and I have learned so much already.

yes I do check tuts often, I am considering doing 30 or so tutorials on creating movie posters because each one has a certain something that I wanted to know how to do. I am kind of just looking for some things to consider when conjuring up a design. I can do plenty of tutorials, but I need some mental advice if you will. I can't seem to find something that works. On a plus side, all this talk of designing is getting me excited. Time to go work in PS a bit! :)

professional generally uses a very simple design. I went in that direction myself with my banner. (You can have a look if you feel the need)
You can easily download a template to get the right sizes for different devices, TV being the biggest one.
Then you just go ahead designing. Choose a few colors that fit well together and brings up the mood(s) of your choise.
You'll have one focus area on the template, with several "layers" where the image shown will get bigger and bigger, depending on which device is seeing it. You need to keep the most important stuff within the smaller area, and then go out as you please, but generally, the most important stuff will be a bit small compared to the bigger picture when making a banner, but this has to do with the way youtube uses the image, and cannot be changed. You can however, add more stuff to the TV part of you please (Won't show on any other devices)
And to make it personal, use your own favorite color(s) and/or palettes, and start designing.
For how to design it, you may take inspiration from other youtubers, but try your best not to copy. You may use things like the banner layout and where to put which things to get the effect you're after, but don't copy things like colors, images, textures, and other more direct things like that.
And as the last words of help here, just experiment. Try out all sorts of stuff. Its not supposed to take 10 minutes to put together, and you may not be happy with your first project, so just keep trying until you're happy.
