For over 3 years I've been creating Youtube videos and have been fairly successful at it. Now with my High School graduation approaching in a few months I have to decide what I want to do with my life, and the answer I keep on coming back to is Youtube.

I've been doing the Math for how much I could make if I started making videos full time and the number is well over 2,000 dollars a month. This calculation includes my CPM, Channel Growth, and the amount of views each new video gets.

My problem is that I have no clue where Youtube will be in 5 years and if I would be able to do this for the rest of my life.

So I guess what I'm trying to ask is where do you think Youtube is headed?

i wouldnt bank on youtbe man im graduating in a few months from high school as well im going to major in acting i do comedy videos and youtube is going to aid in my acting as far as networking and getting myself more known that is the reason why i make youtube videos but only very few people can actually live off of youtube(like the top 10 people on youtube) I suggest really think of a career path you want to choose if you cant.Think of some old hobbies youve done or just activities youve always enjoyed(Something that can actually be made into a profession) im not trying to discourage you from youtube im just being very realistic and you made a good point who knows something could happen to youtube in the next 5 years then you wouldnt have any support left.Just something to think about Good luck to you man :)

The top ten you tubers?? Many more people make a living off youtube then that! There's hundreds! I can made about 9 COD commentators alone! Haha :') then you have yogscast, a crap load of vloggers :) it's not that hard.. Just matters on how much you're making :)

And remember.. Youtube started in 2005.. And it's this far.. So it'll keep going without a doubt!

I would never count on being sucessfull on youtube for life. Theres no telling what could happen to it (or you) in the future. Now if you can make enough money with it right now, go for it, ride that pony as long as you can. BUT you should look into going to college(if you have a career choice that requires it), its never a bad thing to have a backup plan.

10 PEOPLE?!?! There are 10 people making millions on Youtube. There are another 1000 doing it full time.

are you kidding me? reguardless of how many youtubers it is its nothing compared to the youtubers who dont live off of youtube. Not to mention with all the users that join youtube it gets harder and harder to live off it whether you realize it or not.Dont listen to this guy dude TAKE MY WORD FOR IT dont depend on youtube for the rest of your life.It would be different if you were already extremely popular on youtube but even then alot of popular youtubers dont plan on doing youtube for the rest of their lives.

I currently have fulltime job and famiy to take care of.
I just started doing youtube and I have uploaded more than 300 videos in 4 months,
I am sure if you try really hard you can continue with youtube and also go to college or work.

Who knows what will happen in future, it is always smart move to have something outs going on the side for unexpected events!

Good Luck!

doesnt matter man think out of those thousands of how many youtubers users there are on youtube that make videos 1000 is nothing compared to that i can only give you the advice dude I wouldnt be telling you this if I wasnt trying to help you out but i can only give you the advice i cant make you listen.

Anyways.. Regardless of how much you could make its always good to have a real job on the side until you actually see how things turn out, I would get a normal job and keep doing youtube on the side or maybe part time them both if you're really sure, but always have something to fall back on :)

But you said you’re going to acting school. Wouldn't you say that acting is an even more uncertain career?
