What would you buy?
Depends on how much. If I get quite a lot then maybe upgrade my equipment or buy some software and if it's just a little probably get a good set of new guitar strings. :)

If they are practically begging then that would put me off, but if they just mention it then i would have no problem handing over a few pounds to help them. What they use it on is up to them but if i like a channel i don't mind because it shows them they are appreciated :)

Hello Guys,

This might be a bit of strange thing to talk about however what’s up with youtubers asking for donations to grow their channel? Does anyone else think that this just plain wrong and borderline begging? As I can almost be certain that 98% of all donations don’t go on future videos.

I think donations for charities is wonderful thing and if they are accepting donations for that then good on them but keeping the money for them self.

What do you guys think?

thanks

It's honestly hard to tell. Many YouTubers come off as honest people, but several have been proven to be liars and manipulators. I'm certain there is a certain amount of them that DO use those donations to help them produce videos as promised, but I'm also just as sure that there are those that don't. It's very hard to see if they actually used those funds for good and not bad. Although, if they make videos showing that they actually bought new equipment/software with the money they were given to improve their videos that would be one way. Whether it's wrong or not is controversial in itself. Personally, I don't like relying on anyone so I usually try and do things on my own. However, some people may be having a way tougher time in life and may need some support. Then again if their lives are really that bad then I would suggest putting YouTube on hold and getting a real job. YouTube is an investment if you really take it serious and it doesn't always pay off so you should have a back up plan just in case. At least that's what I think. For me it's just a hobby and I prefer to invest more on something like school.

Thanks for your comment, I like your thoughts on self reliance.[DOUBLEPOST=1474473389,1474473357][/DOUBLEPOST]thank for everyone who commented and voted.

I don't think I could ever ask people for money! YouTube is a hobby for me and if I spend money on it, it's so I can make better content for my viewers because I want to..not because I have to!

If I were to ask for donations, it'd be in the description.

Like the others said, YouTubers spend time and money just to produce free contents for others to watch.

Nothing wrong to ask, but make sure your channels and videos are the foundations and you don't force them down peoples' throats.
