Youtube deleting videos?

But the damage is not undone by cleaning the description. The video already has more views and the rank on YouTube and third party websites it already manipulated.
I see what you're saying, but in a situation like this it isn't so cut and dry that they were violating terms of service (presumably, as long as they weren't putting affiliate links in the description). Listing makeup, as long as it's not done in an obviously spammy way, is no different to me then listing the ingredients to a recipe. It's at worst a grey area and at best not against TOS at all. But the fact that they let so many videos remain up for so long and then strike them all down at once is harsh, imo. A warning would have signaled to the partners that their content might be against TOS and would have given them time to change it. Yes, they already received benefit from the 'violation' but those rankings aren't permanent. They theoretically could change, at least on the Youtube website with regard to the suggested video algorithm.

I believe they didn't terminate because these aren't obvious TOS violations. What other reason would they have not to terminate? That all being said, until I see an example of what the description areas of any of these videos looked like I can't possibly comment as to whether or not they likely knew the videos had clear cut TOS violations.

I absolutely agree with you on that one. Having e.g. five products listed in the description won't do much damage anyway. But at least big channels use specialists to "optimize" their video descriptions and these know very well what they are doing. So I am very hesitant to give most people the benefit of doubt here.

After all I guess it's just a matter of cost here. YouTube very likely just doesn't want to spend money for the manpower that would me needed to monitor if violations really have been corrected.

Once you are listed on a prominent blog because of your view count that's very permanent :(

It seems that since quite some time the even don't terminate channels that have a huge amount (100+) unrelated tags in the description. I call that a pretty obvious TOS violation.

Yeah you're right, I hadn't considered that.

Honestly I haven't paid enough attention to enough channels but I don't doubt that what you're saying is true. Maybe they are being lenient, like you said. Maybe they plan on enforcing the rule more strictly and want to clear away a bunch of offending videos without having to jump to terminations. I'd still like to see the descriptions of some of the videos that have been taken down (which is impossible). Most of the time when a video is removed or a channel is terminated the people are doing something wrong and know it is probably wrong. It's very common for partners to see a big youtuber doing something that seems shady and getting away with it, so they figure screw it, I'm going to do that too.

Many search engines keep entries cached for a certain amount of time. Simply search for the video ID of a removed video and enter it to google and bing. In about 70% of the cases that show up in the help forums one of those search engines presents a big amount of tag spam. I deal with it every day.

I tried it with a couple of videos that were deleted from Vintageortacky (mentioned by @Dreamcatcher earlier in the thread) and couldn't find anything...then, lo and behold, I noticed that all of the videos that Vintageortacky mentioned in her rant video regarding this have been reinstated with their original views intact. So what's going on here? Are these mistakes made by human and/or bot? Is this simply another case of a big youtuber being given special treatment by Youtube? I wonder how many other makeup videos are being reinstated. Incidentally, the reinstated videos contained no list of makeup whatsoever. It's really troublesome if Youtube is reinstating videos selectively depending on the size of a channel while giving the finger to smaller channels that were affected.

My personal point of view is that this is just a case of too big to fail :(

If YouTube would strictly go after each violation they could simply shut down the platform ...

I would tend to agree with you. It's funny because there is always this perception that the large Youtubers get special treatment and every once in awhile you actually see it happen.

The thing is that if it was my website I would probably just act like YouTube does ...
Well, that's pretty much how life works too, no? The world tends to favor the haves over the have nots when it comes to almost any type of offense. Those with political pull...those with money...those with fame, etc...they tend to avoid jail time for offenses that the average person would get jail time for.

That being said, I've seen at least 3 smaller makeup channels (<4000 subs) that have had their videos reinstated as well, so I'm still not sure what exactly is going on here. This has taken up way too much of my time, what the hell is the matter with me? I have actual work I need to get done lol.

The thing I don't like about this is that, I'm my opinion, they must be acting on old flags or some bot. Either way, even if these partners were doing something that violated TOS, Youtube has allowed those videos to remain up for quite some time, which would lead the creator to logically conclude that they were doing nothing wrong (whatever they were doing), especially if it's a grey area type of offense (not blatant spamming of keywords or affiliate links). A warning could have and should have been given in those cases.
totally agree![DOUBLEPOST=1438782552,1438782451][/DOUBLEPOST]
And what is the reason for not putting it into whole sentences like I proposed?
I don't know! Maybe people are not aware that they can't write just the name of the products... or just lazyness?[DOUBLEPOST=1438782737][/DOUBLEPOST]

This is getting even more strange as times passes....
