I think its quite new?

Ive just been accepted into it - I think you need to have min 5k subs in order to be accepted.
Had a quick look over it but don't really get what its for so far! lol

must of changed then because when it FIRST came out like last year I was part of it and it ended up being people just going in the forums page and begging for subscribers, I couldn't even figure out how to do the lessons, then when it re-released with the same content, the forums was finally moderated so there was close to no advertising and the lessons were still pointless so I cant imagine what yours looks like lol
 
Are you guys talking about the Google+ community? I just joined and only have 27 subs. It doesn't seem to have put me in a wait queue.

There are different communities/topics you can join - some are moderated and have specific requirements. Some are open for all to join.
Although looks like all are pretty pointless ;)
You can build your own community though - so build an audience around your channel and interact with them etc - like a mini forum.

They're only pointless if they don't work. If you don't try, you'll never know.
