YouTube categories and what if your show doesn't fit them?

Hey there everyone, thanks for taking a moment to look this over. One issue I have with YouTube is how the categories are so broad, I'm shocked given the wide breadth of content there isn't a more specific genre system in place. Our show is a found footage horror show where the characters are documenting their "life" but of course it's not real. So does that put us in People and Vlogs? Or given the nature that it's meant to be a show in the format do we go with entertainment? There's nothing in between. An experiment did yield a general answer to that question, "What happens when we switch from people and vlogs to entertainment?" Our views went through the floor, just bottomed out. Does anyone feel that they may be missing their target demographics by not having a more genre specific system?

I'll just move this to the Youtube Chat, Gossip & Help section of the forum for you It seems as though, by what you described, that your videos would go under Entertainment. I don't think I'm missing my target audience..as I am a musician...so my category is Music hehe.

I mean it sounds like an Entertainment show, but whether you want to tactically put it in a different category is up to you I guess? I think that most people find videos through searches rather than the categories though? Not sure... I have a music review show and I find most people come to my videos through searching for the specific artists that I review rather than just browsing the Music category

Thanks so much, I'm suffering newbie disease here. Yeah it was strange when we tried to go over to Entertainment, I was certain that it would increase views, and as Catie said most people don't use it, but the views dropped significantly. So for that reason we went right back, and back to normal the views went. I guess it's more of a feature I'd like to see, more than anything maybe for analytic and being able to see what's the popular horror show, what's the popular sci fi show etc.
