YouTube as a career?

I've Got It
Have you ever thought about doing YouTube for a career? I have from day one. Now I don't like reading people's comments saying that its not good to think this way. I do agree though that you need to have fun in order to enjoy your career. So whats wrong with doing it for a career if you genuinely like doing it? I do agree though you can't expect it to become a career but it sure can if you stay motivated and dedicated!

What are your thought?

Absolutely! YouTube is now my career 100% (actually 168%). But I'm strictly behind the scenes at the moment.
For the kids, it's part time. For my wife, it's casual, helping out now and then.
We hope the wife can quit her job in December and we go all in to Youtube.
In my 26 years in IT, telcos, cafe, IM, YouTube is by far the most challenging, the most exhaustive, the most fun, and the most profitable job ever.
But you have to go all in. I would say give it 100% but that is not enough. You need 150%-200%.
About fun, it is over-rated. Perhaps when you are 15 living with the folks with all bills paid, washing done, dinner ready for you on the table, ye, fun is great. When you've got mortgages, kids, bills, fun takes a back seat to supporting your family and having stable income. If there is fun in your job, ye that's great, but more important is satisfaction at reaching your goals, supporting your family, and being successful (however you define that success).

Thank you for the response. This just moticated me and i'm waking up tomorrow at 5;30 to make a video!

I had yt becoming a career in mind the minute I got the courage to start a channel. I've always loved theater and acting. It's what I've always wanted to do since I found out what acting was. I'm not trying to sound vain, but I knew I was artistic. Drawing, dancing, instruments, writing, and an entertaining personality. But I wanted to be my "own boss". And after meeting my husband, who showed me what YouTube has done for him, I fell in love with it, and like said, had the courage to start a channel, and with practice hope that it goes from hobby to career. I'm hoping to start school soon to become a teacher. But I feel like I will always do YouTube. It satisfies my artistic needs, and hopefully people will appreciate that.

i think Youtube can be a career but unfortunately the competition in YouTube start growing every day. So the key for sustainability is to produce content with high quality.

It's not something I'm pursuing as a career. I think it's too volatile and too dependent upon the whims of Google to depend upon. I'd much rather have a day job and make videos that I want to than depend on viewers to determine in what ways I express myself creatively.

Well I've told myself I probably won't end up doing that, but if that day did come I would grab that opportunity
