youtube account and google+?

How can I connect my youtube account and google+ page? whenever I want to leave a comment with my youtube account I always get this option...

• Your full name from your Google+ profile will replace your username on YouTube.
• Your channel title and photo will also change.
• You can review your content for anything you want to make private before updating.

But I don't want to change my photo or channel title or anything,just connect the google+ page to my already active youtube account,once I tryed to do this and almost had an heart attack,it was like my account just got deleted and replaced with 0 activity,0 subscribers,0 views and videos account,It was like a brand new channel...a total mess!

If anyone can help me out here,I would greatly appreciate it! Thank you again!
