I've Got It
Hopefully there isn't a thread simliar to this, if there is, just delete this one.

So, I always wondered if me and my friend were the unluckiest people ever on youtube, because the story is very similiar. I'll tell it in a moment, if you want , read it, but this thread isn't to spread my story.
It's for YOU to share your story, and for me to hear it. I really hope that you'll reply to this thread ;)

Ok so, my channel started out .. pretty " lame " ? My name was Karlos Kar, and I did gaming videos...
Really short videos, useless ones, videos on games that nobody knew, videos on games that everybody already played, completed, etc. No wonder I didn't get popular..
I remember everyday I woke up, a new sub came, i was so happy. But then, I gave up at 80 subs, and decided to open a trolling channel, and name it The(Cuz it's cool) Mute ( Cuz I don't talk to almost anyone in real life, and I also don't talk in my videos ) Troll ( Because it was meant to be a trolling channel )
it was MEANT to be a trolling channel, until one day I got p****d off at somebody that made fake videos about a legend in a game, and i decided to talk about it...
Videos got very popular, i didn't expect that! Sometimes, I try to make some kinda new videos about some new subjects, and they just go crazy famous... for me.

The person that made me change everything in my channel, was also the person that managed to get me to change my channel...

Because, one day, he copyright striked me.
I learned EVERYTHING about copyright strikes, and now I'm very careful.

I realized he was just tryiung to take the video down. without my video actually infringing his rights or something, but still...
At 200 subscribers, I needed to change channel :\

Made new videos, etc etc.

Until I reached 1000 subs, I wanted to monetize... But holy s**t was it hard :\ I lost so much money, and I hope to never do a mistake like that never again.

I changed a bit my channel, but kept my name, did a video about " geometry dash " apparently original, and boom, it went " viral " 300k views. That's the video that's keeping me going on youtube, what about you?

Did you ever manage to create a viral video?
Have you ever changed channel because of copyright strikes?
Have you ever moved channels?
Tell me your story!

I made NBA mixes and highlights but copyright monster ruined it.
My name was Da Miz lol @JeriKane
I created new channel just for liking and commenting and such but now i started to make some vids for yttalk fam

I started gaming videos under BornAPlay, did some collabs which were awesome, I also joined this forum back in 2013 too.
I played and created videos till around 18 subs then I stopped, because my RL friends new, and they kept playing my videos in class.

Around 3 months later I started up another channel called Ubernoober, that was good, I got around 20 subs and beat my personal best.

I got an elgato after that and decided to make better videos under a different name again, (I forgot the name of it) and played WWE 2K15 and FIFA 15, and started becoming very active on the forum late 2014.

Then I met @JeriKane around 2014, and told him that I made videos, he was not impressed. (As usual)

My channel picked up after becoming a loyal member of YTTalk, and I gained around 50 subscribers!

Now, I have started a new channel called VlogBalor, where I am trying to over come my fear of the camera, and share moments that I have on my mind and other cool things. Which currently has 15 subscribers. (I havn't put any effort in, but my video editing is improving) I also get asked a lot, when my next vlog video will be, which I never got with my gaming channels before.

I don't understand how you lost money by monetizing your channel...

But anyway, my channel is a little weird. I made the channel when StarCraft 2 came out, in fact, the name Kaleido comes from when I played in the Beta. I did SC commentaries for a while, but I ended up working with a friend and even running a few tournaments, but we posted most of the work to his channel. After he had a huge falling out with another friend of mine, I pretty much had to stop talking to him, so all our efforts and the brand we built up got wrecked. Then I started making videos for levels I created in CS:GO (those still exist if you go back far enough haha) just to have for my portfolio. Never really intended for them to be seen by anyone at large. So yea, funnily enough, Kaleido as a channel started with gaming.

Around that time, I also posted a video of the exhaust sound of the car I'd just bought, again with just the intention of sharing with friends. That video did surprisingly well, and that started sparking the idea that maybe I should be making car related content.

Almost a year went by with no forward momentum on that front, then a friend of mine called me up with a proposition; he was moving out of town, needed to bring all his stuff, and couldn't drive because of medication he was taking. He specifically said, and I'll never forget this, "You're the only one I know crazy enough to take a roadtrip like this". I retorted with "...we should film it." That experience ended up being the New Mexico Roadtrip on my channel. I learned to edit while I was making it, which is why over 3 parts the quality dramatically increases.

I made a lot of mistakes around this time and mistakenly thought, because there isn't any well-produced long-form road trip videos out there, I had somehow found an unexplored niche. The harsh reality is very few people have been interested in our roadtrip content, so the channel evolved into more project-oriented tasks. I still plan on making roadtrip videos, because I personally LOVE going on those adventures and creating videos about it, but it isn't really a center focus as much as it was before. The rest is pretty much self-explanatory haha

To answer your questions; no, I've never made a viral video, and I doubt I will ever because my content is too niche. I've had one single erroneous copyright strike early on, but I didn't move channels because of it, just fought it :)

Wish I'd fought it like you, because it was a copyright striked just to get my video down, I didn't infringe his rights or anything

About the lost money by monetizing, I monetized at around 1000 subscribers, when i had 300,000 views i think?
So that's about 300$ lost.

Lost money because I didn't have monetized my videos before, then I did, but I found out there's a song that I playged in almost every video that was copyrighted, f**k.

I was addicted to watching YouTube videos for a very long time and wanted to start myself, but I was too scared of reactions from 'friends'. But when I bought a house with my boyfriend we got pets so I started a YouTube channel about them. I have had 1 'viral' video (300.000 views spread over 2 copies on 2 channels) which has been featured in a fail army compilation with about 5million views. I have not had a copyright strike yet because I have only used music from the Audio Library.

Your $ on ads don't correlate with your views so it won't mean you lost 300 dollars. My bet is you prolly earn way less than that.

Anyway, where did you come up with the idea of playing that Dash game?

Did you ever manage to create a viral video?
Nope, my highest viewed video (21k at this point) had viral potential (mustang spinning out and crashing), but it wasn't picked up by those that have massive sharing capability. I don't go out trying to make viral videos though! I keep forgetting to change the thumbnail to the point he crashes as an experiment.

Have you ever changed channel because of copyright strikes?

Nope, I never had any copyright strikes. If I somehow end up with one in the future it will undoubtedly be false due to my stuff being my own.

Have you ever moved channels?

I have created other channels, but never abandoned one for any reason. They are inactive due to time constraints, but still on the back burner.

Used to like impossible games, tried geometry dash, saw videos of people playing levels, cheating but getting money from cheating...
That made me mad, so I made a video to go against them. ;3

Thank you all for your answers ;)
