Your Thoughts on YouTube Rewind 2018?

Noticed that YouTube Rewind 2018 was released. Also noticed that it has 1m likes and 2.5m dislikes.

What's your take on YouTube Rewind, whether you're an up vote or a down vote? Personally, I think it was better than last years, not just for the fact that they got rid of some certain YouTubers, but they added in a variety. You see Korean YouTubers featured pretty prominently, and they used comments of what people wanted in Rewind.

There is just still something about YouTube Rewind that just always makes me not quite satisfied with what I just watched.

I think that anyone who is not featured in the video or who doesn't make videos from the niches that are represented in the video tend to feel resentment towards the project and also towards YouTube in general. Obviously there are more people NOT featured than featured and that is reflected in the huge number of dislikes.

I believe there is also the school of thought that says Youtube uses YouTube rewind to push a certain agenda and that it has all become a bit too much.... how can I say this...... politically correct and cliquey.

This is a good point! Towards the end, it does push an agenda with women empowerment and such. Now, not saying an agenda like that is good or bad (I am a woman, after all), but with the current turmoil I think that it was a pretty bold statement.

Yeah, the part in the middle while discussing all the things that happened that were good felt like propaganda and was really leftist, and that definitely reflected in the like to dislike ratio. And, they also didn't start it with PewDiePie saying "Year Review", so that was a huge disappointment, even though we all knew it was never going to happen. Although, if you look closely in the video, you can see that the second clip of JaidenAnimations has her in PewDiePie's chair, which was a nice way to sneak him in there. In all, it was pretty cringy, especially with the Fortnite bits, and when I saw those two pushing the shopping cart I had to take a quick break and calm myself. In all, I appreciated the whole bit where they listened to the comments, but they didn't really listen to us, they listened to whatever comments they already want to put in there video, because if they really listened to us, they would have had PewDiePie say year review, or have a bit on the race between T-Series and PewDiePie, which they should have done anyway, because it has been the biggest thing on YouTube since fidget spinners.

You make some great points. I hate that YouTube has essentially decided that Pewdiepie doesn't exist. Also, not a Fortnite fan so the fact that it was the basis for the WHOLE rewind was pretty disappointing!

It is impressive and well scripted and executed but, it is not "You" tube. Watching the bts it is clear that it is pro-tube and perhaps ad-friendly tube. And a small detail, there are no direct links of starring people's channels in video description :D

Yeah, that's a good point. They don't add the links to the channels. The one thing I DID like was that they had the names and pictures of the people who starred at the end, kind of like credits. They haven't done that before!

I felt like they only wanted creators to be apart of this terrible story and had to have it filmed in this cinematic masterpiece that turned into a cluster of a mess.
I would've preferred to see some of the more popular creators and bits of their most popular videos as well. But oh well. Too late now.

I usually feel slightly in the loop about YouTube happenings, but I didn't really understand the references aside from the K-Pop and melting lipsticks parts lol. :o It was okay -- I recognized a few people that keep popping up in my recommended feed, but I thought YTtalk's rewind was better. ^^
