Your live commentating style?

Hey guys,
I have nearly been on YouTube for a month now and I have done well so far. Most of my videos have been pre thought out with what I was going to say and do etc. I have really done a "Live Commentary" and I was wondering what your style? How do you continue on talking without waffling on as I have seen many people do this (including myself) and how do you keep it entertaining?

I'm not entirely sure what you mean by "waffling on", but I tend to just write a couple talking points in a notebook next to my computer which usually keeps me talking for the whole episode. If I'm in the story parts of the game, I'll try to talk about the game or read voices. Since I don't really talk a lot in public, YouTube is my place to talk to people so I have a lot to say.

Waffle on is a local term so suppose I should of made it clear, what I mean by waffle on is be like,
"erm.......erm....like you know that this this this happens but you can...........erm.....like....do this"
 
When I do live commentary (which is always) I mostly talk about what's going happening on screen, I tend to communicate with with the different characters in the game and sometimes just do random rants.
I've just made the waffle (as you seem to call it, never heard the term before, but I understand it) part of my style, you just have to make it seem natural.
The most important part of doing live commentary is to be yourself and feel relaxed and comfortable with what you're doing.
 
I'm terrible at any kind of commentary but I'm slowly getting better. It helps me a lot to write out some ideas first so I can try to avoid all the awkward silences and "ums" as much as possible, haha.
 
Since most of my "commentary" comes from tutorial videos, I generally make most of it up as I go along.

Sometimes I'll make bullet points on my iPad if I have a lot to go through :)

It's just me playing the game but expressing myself out loud - hardly tough!

Could never imagine planning or scripting moments during a let's play - what would be the point? :P
 
Practice, you need to practice until you're comfortable being completely you when you're freestyling your commentary. Everyone's is going to be different, some people say stuff that's completely random and their supporters love it, others say stuff purely about the game, some if recording with other people have full on conversations and forget they were playing that specific game and others like me, like to commentate what they're doing, but mine is mixed in with random, forgetfullness and what I'm doing lol I've found this is better during stealth games or points where I need pure forucs, since my first instinct when sneaking around places in real life is to go quiet, I actually do that while playing games too, so I've been practicing trying to explain my intentions to viewers since they can't read my mind and I'm reminding myself prior, although it kind of comes naturally when I have to explain what I'm doing and some of my supporters seem to love it which surprised the crap out of me, primarily with TLOUR Left Behind. Only advice I have is to practice, you'll find your own style that suits you.

The only time I'll script something is if I'm doing a preview and there's specific points I need to cover, sometimes I write a full script sometimes just dot points, mainly dot points now days, cause when doing previews or reviews I need to be as profressional about it as I can, otherwise it's an insult to the gaming community & consumers.
