You Don't Suck!

I feel that if Youtube was going to step up it's game to allow everyone to see each videos their subscriptions upload, they'll need to do a pretty big redesign of the homepage, because a lot of people are subbed to a ton of people, and naturally their subscriptions will bury each other with the current 1-column design.

This makes me wonder how they choose who receives what you upload and how many do out of your subscribers.

If I were going to guess, it's probably similar to the Facebook model - they're going to populate the upload feed with what they expect you'll most want to see. I'd imagine it's less of an impact for the "YouTube obsessed" like us, because we tend to watch most of what we're subscribed to.[DOUBLEPOST=1365112104,1365112011][/DOUBLEPOST]
Are they just sending them to active subs or what. If not I do not see the purpose in this???

From a social media perspective - probably. If you subscribe to someone, and then just don't watch their stuff for a while, it's less likely to show up in the uploads tab. YouTube wants you to stay on the site, so they're going to show you what they think you're most likely to watch.

That's just informed speculation on my part though.[DOUBLEPOST=1365112149][/DOUBLEPOST]
Something is going to have to come along to move the people like the migration from myspace to facebook. If that doesn't happen YouTube just doesn't have to try very hard because they know we aren't going anywhere.

It's funny you use that example - Facebook is doing exactly the same thing that we're frustrated that YouTube is doing.[DOUBLEPOST=1365112520][/DOUBLEPOST]Just to nib this in the bud, because I'm sure we all want to get back to railing on YouTube for doing this...

Right now (unless you've got some angel investors and some pretty darned good development chops), there's nothing we can do about how YouTube operates. But! We can try to work within the system to minimize the negative effects it will have. Here are a few suggestions:
  • Share your videos out on every social media platform. This isn't just to reach non-subscribers anymore - it provides another opportunity for subs who might not have gotten your video in their feed to re-discover you.
  • Make sure you're broadcasting your likes/subscribes/etc. People are using the YouTube recommends feed in addition to the upload feed. Get your face out there!
  • Make sure you've got calls-to-action. Get your subscribers to like/comment/share/etc.
  • Don't overload your channel! If I'm right about how they're populating feeds, if someone skips, say, three of your videos, they're going to be less likely to see the fourth. Make sure everything you put up is engaging.
Okay, carry on!

Sometimes the easiest solution is the most overlooked one: Ask your subscribers to bookmark your channel page.

Am I the only one that thinks this is a disgrace? I know they like to promote the top youtubers as much as possible but not showing our subscribers our videos because they need more room to promote people? This is an absolute joke.
