You do not need to upload videos every day

A lot of people think that to become a large channel you need to release videos every day, This is not true. Some large youtubers rarely release videos every week, for example CGP grey or the Gaming Lemon. What really matters is quality > quantity, I see new channels who make videos every day but the are unbearable to watch.

So next time you think of uploading that minecraft lets play episode #233 that you recorded that day, watch it over and say to yourself, "is this video that good?"
 
I do agree that quality over quantity is something to always live by, both on YouTube, as well as any work you put out in general. ccarpe does bring up a great point though, as the regularity of your releases should change depending on what kind of channel you are. Also, the larger channels don't have to release videos every day, just because they have a large enough of a viewership that there's no need for them to keep the masses engaged every day.

At the end of the day though, quality over quantity is best, yes.
 
Defiantly agree with quality over quantity and that the types of videos you put up will help determine how often you should up load. I will say though that I think a channel with more videos and a channel that has a lot of good videos on it is what everyone aims for and is what most appeals to a potential subscriber. When I see people uploading videos everyday I think they're trying to make their channel look complete and like it's worth subscribing too.

I think this comes from people focusing too much on their subscriber number and thinking that lots of videos equals lots of subscribers since big YouTubers have lots of videos and subscribers. The point they miss is that YouTubers that are successful work for years at what they do. I think the perception of how channels grow can be seen wrong. People that go around doing sub for sub or just rush out videos think that a big number is representative of their success, whereas in my opinion a successful channel is having active people who like what you do, the number grows naturally and it's the people and your videos that is what people should really focus on!
 
I think that the quality depends by the kind of video you are going to publish, so the quality of different kind of contents =]

E.g. (USUALLY)

  • if you are gonna publish a vlog, usually you don't need a great color correction, editing, music... but the quality must be found on content, audio quality and idea ^^
  • if you are gonna publish a drama video, you should focus on the colors and the story but less in the spoken contents, images are more important =]
  • if It is a game should be more important the ability of the player and what it is for the vlog ^^

I totally agree with this! I upload guitar covers on my page. I cover all types of bands/artist, with that being said... variety is key. Say for example someone doesn't like one song or band, they may love the next artist I cover. So I try to do roughly atleast 1 a week or so.
 
I think it's the channel, however many videos they decide to upload, is well.. Entirely up to them.
But you are right. They should ask themselves 'Is this video good..?' But maybe in their eyes it is! haha
 
Also the way the youtube algorithm works, uploading every single day can be detrimental. For example look at facebook and like a few peoples post, you'll notice these people will start appearing on your feed. The ones that you don't contact for a while will start "disappearing" from your feed because the system things you are dis interested. You will stop getting information from the people you usually do find interest in. Now replace Facebook with Youtube and friends with subscribers. It's the same concept. One well put together video a week with really good quality is better then 7 decent video's with ok quality a week.
 
It can be difficult to look critically at your own work, especially if you worked hard at something for days. You get the feeling that it is finished and you want to put it out there! While you forgotten the last three steps: critically review, critically review, and you guessed it, critically review. If you are not 100% happy with something, it usually means you can do better, so don't post it. Try to improve yourself, make your last work your best work and maybe after a while people discover that you make some darn fine work. Like @MattyGreen said you can't skip to the end of this process, it will have to be one painstaking video at a time. I'd say especially at the beginning of your youtubing career it's much more important to focus on improving yourself than on putting out lots of videos. Of course there are always the talented, lucky few for whom this process goes a lot faster, and who can make a good video every day.
 
I wish I could upload every day, or even weekly.

But I can't, and I'm glad that most of my subs are ok with that and very supportive (bar the few that rage after a week "WHERE IS PART 2")
