Yes or no to Background Music for Vlogs?

I really like background music in vlogs, I think it just adds a bit extra. Also, music is really helpful for getting your audience into a certain kind of mood.

Just as long as the music is complimentary to the subject matter and it isn't too loud.

I'd always prefer light music contrasting videos. It'd be almost weird to listen to people with static in the background.

I've seen videos work with background music and without it. Ultimately its up to your discretion. If you feel your point will be distracted by the music don't use it. If you find a piece that will work with the tone of your film then go ahead. You should know quickly if a track attracts or detracts from the points on your film.

Whether it's distracting or not, I think people who make vlogs use background music to help hold a viewer's attention. If a vlogger can't hold the energy in a video or keep momentum going with just their voice, that's when the background music comes in. I think it ultimately depends on your style of video-making. I've seen that people who make comedy vlogs prefer not to use background music because they might feel what they're saying is enough to keep the viewers interested. Vlogs such "7 Facts About Me" videos tend to use background music because there honestly isn't anything immediately interesting about a person sharing their favorite movie. It's like adding artificial energy.

I would say yes, however personally I think the most effective way to do so would make it barely noticeable. Enough where it adds a bit of depth to the video, but not enough where it distracts from what you're saying.
