Would You Consider Using Your Smartphone For A Microphone/Camera?

Hey guys! I'm new here so I thought a great way to engage with the community would be to post this question and find out your opinions!

So I think that if you're smartphone has good enough quality then you should use it but I think some people might judge you for doing so. With the technology that some smart phones have like 4K/UHD recording I think it is really savvy to try and use it instead of buying a seperate camera especially if you are new. If you require certain things then it might not be for you!

What are your opinions on this guys?

I had a smartphone for a little while and it was great to use as a camera/microphone, I prefer DSLR's, but if I'm in a bind a smartphone cam works wonders.

I believe that it is a good idea to use your phones and other mobile devices for recording. Like I used my iPad for recording and it turned out great. Then I edited it on the computer so I say using your mobile devices for recording is a great idea instead of having to buy a separate camera.

DSLR will be much better in some situations but I was suprised at how well footage from my LG G2 actually came out and how clear the microphone is! :D

I think smartphones are great to use as a camera, people think they need an amazing camera but they don't realise that the cameras on smartphones are pretty awesome and trump most webcams. If you have an SLR or GoPro then always go for those but a phone is a great solution.

When I recorded a facecam for my old channel I bought an expensive webcam that turned out to be a massive pain. The quality was awful, and if a game (most likely an indie title) refreshed the screen the webcam would stop recording. I got so frustrated with it that I ended up using my Galaxy S4 and it was a thousand times better. The picture and frame rate was better and I never had to worry about the recording messing up.

I wouldn't recommend using a phone for audio though, you should invest in a proper microphone, sound quality is key when doing a commentary.

If I would have to do a vlog or something like that which does not need that long continous recording and post-processable, and I don't hvae any other choice probably I'd. Many smartphones and after what I heard especially iDevices have a pretty good mic. Not sure about other phones but probably they have too.

Smart phones are not bad at all to use if you don't have the technology. We filmed our first two sketch videos on an iPhone, with an external microphone hooked up to the phone and a wide angle ollo clip for a lens.
Quality wasn't bad at all for what it is. Obviously smart phone technology is even better than we started so, if you can make it look good and to the quality you are proud of, I shouldn't (& wouldn't) hate on that.

If you don't have the money to buy a fancy camera you can always use your phone :) I use my phone on my videos and the video quality is good! It all depends I suggest using it more for video than microphone

These days one can use a good smartphone and upload in full 1080p HD - the audience would be hard pressed to guess it was from a smartphone in the first instance.
