would an i3 be sufficient for youtube and college?

I mostly do gaming youtube videos and light editing (video)
i use hauppauge capture software (because it works with the hd pvr rocket) and i stream

For school i have to use Microsoft office and google earth for assignments

as i'm on a budget i was hoping the i3 (5010 or a 5000 series) would do just fine
( if you suggest amd then which one)

btw later on down the line hopefully i'll get a desktop that will be used for editing and creativity purposes

It depends on what kinda game you want to play. Some games are CPU-intensive while others are GPU-intensive, a mix between the both, and so on. Not to mention you'd need to record yourself while playing, so that'd be an extra load on the CPU. If you're unsure about how much CPU power the games you play would consume, try searching gameplay videos of the games you play, with the CPU model accompanying your search query, that should give you an idea on what kinda performance you'd be getting while playing the game and recording it at the same time.

And make sure you have separate HDD for the recorded video files.

Btw if you're really on a budget, check the Intel Dual Core G3258 CPU out. It's no quad-core powerhouse, but it's actually very good, has high price:power ratio, and is overclockable. Then you can spend the rest of your budget on other stuff (better GPU, more RAM, etc)

Where abouts are you located? I could have something right up your street if you're local...... ;)
i'm pretty sure i'm a far from you
