Very solid point, it's also personal preferance, personally I'm also looking to gain something from collaborating. If a smaller channel had great content, perhaps it would improve the quality of my videos, and the bigger a channel is the more you share viewerbases. Optimally I wanna collab with someone who has great content, and also a large viewerbase.@uberdanger has the correct philosophy if you want to follow a model that is built to grow. I can't argue that. However, I do it regardless of size, I'm a small channel for one, and more importantly for me, that's staying in character to help the little guy.
The gap will change as my size changes since I do believe there to be a fixed range I will follow. It just has a longer range into smaller channels I like. This could hurt me in the end, but I wouldn't change it either way.
I believe this is yet another decision for me I'm seeing that comes down to a simple yet vital aspect. Making decisions while using your channel's character/persona is a big factor in choosing who to collaborate with.
I would think that if a bigger channel collabed with a smaller channel it would be because they saw them, watched their stuff and really liked it and wanted to just purely help out. I can't see it happening any other way.Very solid point, it's also personal preferance, personally I'm also looking to gain something from collaborating. This is why you mostly only see big channels collabing with big channels.
It's often times the other way around, I never approach smaller channels, it's usually them that approach me. Sure this happens, bit then "helping" is mostly in the form of liking/commenting their videos and so on. It's also me who contacts bigger channels who I want to collab with, for example I've had several people with 500k+ subs appear in my videos, but there's no way they would have contacted me.I would think that if a bigger channel collabed with a smaller channel it would be because they saw them, watched their stuff and really liked it and wanted to just purely help out.
