Will a serious YouTube competitor ever appear?

Do you think a serious YouTube competitor will ever appear? Microsoft has been promising for quite a few years to invest in a video sharing website for vloggers, that will have a partnership program and everything else that YouTube offers. If Microsoft doesn't have the money to do that, then nobody does. Some more rumors say that Maker Studio and an one of the original YouTube founders are also planning to launch some similar websites, based on collaboration between video creators.

I mean, sure, there are Vimeo, Dailymotion and Metacafe, but no possibility of monetizing your content means almost nobody uses them, and YouTube still reigns supreme... for now.

What do you think? Will a serious YouTube competitor ever appear?

If you think historically, then I think yes at some point though it may not be in the near future. But a company/product/tool/can only be ****** up so many times, before eventually someone with the power to seizes the opportunity to fill the void. Some people thought myspace would always reign supreme, probably thought the same about AOL, but once the disillusionment is too great, SOMEONE'S gonna jump on that opportunity.

Maker Studios would defiantly jump on that offer , all they want is money. You'd be stupid to think differently. But Youtube will be Youtube & stay here forever :)

This reminds me of how EA competes with steam by releasing only their games on THEIR! PC platform. Nobody takes them seriously about it either. Hell they probably lose millions of dollars by refusing to work with steam on PC titles but back to youtube.

I think youtube has become alot like steam at the moment it is entrenched with video creators alot like facebook is with social networks it could take years to chizzle it out with a better network. So its not about microsoft having the money to do it (which they likely do) but about them doing it and making it worth their time when they can just use youtube anyway.

Well, i really don't know if YT would be gone lol. It's all in the hands of google :(

The reason I say that is that, if they keep heading in the direction they seem to be, the incentive to vlog and even watch is going to greatly diminish. I'm not saying youtube will disappear, but staying as it is or being the youtube we all know it to be? It's already NOT the youtube people loved 4 years ago, it's already becoming something we don't want it to be. If it keeps going in this direction, it will probably become something no one even wants to use after enough time. I'm not trying to scare you into thinking this will happen anytime soon, I'm just saying the idea that youtube's gonna last FOREVER? I highly doubt it...

I'm not sacred. I know nothing is going so well with youtube now. When youtube 1st launched it's domain, it was great! The old layout was the best, You could get a FULL partnership through youtube itself, It was harder to get into network , No worry of paid subscriptions. People have loved Yt for years , but now Youtube's basically shooting themselves in the foot with this new changes s**t ! I miss the old youtube :( If youtube kept it the way it was , with no changes…. it would've been better , youtubers would've been better.

Anyone agree ?
