One of the things that you will hear people say when asking for advice on growing your channel is to network.
But what does "networking" mean?
One of the most common lines of advice I give is "sometimes it's more about advertising you rather than your channel". What I mean is that people tend to react negatively, perhaps even subconsciously, to efforts regarding channel promotion. BUT...(most) people are more than willing to get to know a person.
So, what does this mean for you? Get people to know you by networking. Network with other content creators. Become friends with these people. If someone knows you well enough, they will be happy to support you and your channel.
Don't just stop at other YouTubers either. Using myself as an example, my channel is revolved around the game "Arma 3". I just naturally became involved in the A3 community because I love the game so much. This lead me to become a very active member of Reddit (a forum which I had never used before the game launched). Because I was such an active member, I'm now one of the moderators. All thanks to networking within my niche.
My channel primarily features tutorials and mod showcases. Mods are crazy popular in the Arma community, so I get a pretty good number of views for the more popular mods.
Now let me get back to networking. I went looking for the next new mod to feature and found one in development with an already healthy level of interest, so I networked with the creator and now I'm part of the team. I will be doing the release videos, the teaser trailers, dev diaries and more. My channel will be the only place you will see any part of the mod before release. I gained over 60 subs overnight on the first day of my mod announcement video!
I'm in the featured box on one of the most popular Arma channels (over 100K subs) because I'm fairly well known in the A3 community thanks to networking.
Keywords are great. Awesome thumbnails are...awesome...but if no-one knows you, you are making things harder for yourself. Get out there and network!
