Why verify my channel?

Hello. I have 58 subscribers and I cannot use my own thumbnails but I can upload for 15 minutes and over (no clue why - it has always been like that, but I know others can't before verification) so I think I will verify my channel due to not being able to use my own thumbnails but is there any other benefits to it?

Some features gets unlocked! I wanted custom thumbnails so I verified and it allows me to add custom thumbnails without partnership or etc! Just some features gets unlocked and that is the end to it!
 
From what I read on youtube itself, it says that you can upload videos longer than 15minutes but before I verified my channel I was able to upload a 17minute video. I was also able to add custom thumbnails and annotations with links.

Do you mean getting a partnership? I figured channel verifying was for channel that were a bit bigger.

Perhaps I'm missing something.
 
Enabling monetization gives many of the partner benefits without actually having to be a partner. You don't even have to monetize videos, just enable monetization and you will get custom thumbnails, extended video times, etc.

Verifying your channel is just like those security stuff from facebook or google that asks for your number and then would text you a code for verification purposes or something. I really don't know what it's for but all those extra benefits.
 
For security reasons I guess. Just in case someone tries to log in on your account from another place/device you'll receive a phone message
