Why to post in 1080p

Hi all,

In addition to my YT videos I have quite a number of static web pages running Google Adsense banners, and as a control for this I run StatCounter scripts to see what's happening.

While some YTubers may think 1080p a luxury, it's worth noting the screen resolutions stats for the average viewer.

60 - 80% of viewers (varies with the subject) now use a screen resolution of 1280 x 1024 or higher.

That's pretty significant.

So if you want to put up low pixelation, sharp videos then 1080p is where you should be looking.

Something to think about.

Cheers all

Rob

Posting in 1080p is nice if you post maybe once or twice a week but if you post daily videos over 10 minutes, it makes no sense to post in 1080p. posting in 720p also cuts rendering time down by HALF. As long as it's in HD, it's fine. Plus, not many people watch videos in 1080p anyway. Your internet has to be top-notch to watch a video in 1080p.

I watch videos in 360p but I like when they are rendered in 1080p because it still makes 360p look better.

This is absolute nonsense.

For gaming i think 1080p is essential, i don't upload gaming videos myself but i do watch them. I do sometimes watch lower quality gaming videos but I only subscribe and continue watching someones videos if they in 1080.

For other types of I don't think it is quite as important but in this day and age i don't think anybody should be uploading to youtube at less than 720p

The StatCounter data also shows that countries like India, Pakistan and Africa have a much higher use of portable devices to access the web. So lesser screen resolutions are more acceptable there.

While portable devices are touted as being where web developers should be aiming their strategies, it's a very long way from being a significant impact on web use.

I have to post in 720p. I upload around 2-3 vids a week. But with my s****y internet connection it takes around 8 hours to upload a 10 min vid at 720p, never mind at 1080p.

I understand your pain.

I'm not suggesting 1080p is suitable for everyone, but the screen resolution data makes interesting reading.

There's probably some YT data on upload resolution trends/volumes somewhere, if you could find it.

Cheers

Rob

Yeah it does, I guess most well known Youtuber's will upload in 1080p. ImAnderZEL has a decent gaming channel, he uploads in 1440p :eeks: His internet must be God-like.
