Why this desperate need to be popular?...

I don't know, I think everyone wants attention in one way or another. Like... to do something that matters. Now sure, Youtube in the grand scheme of things means nothing. The biggest YT celeb still does not compare to even a mediocre Hollywood celeb. But... it does feel good to know people out there are watching your videos and take the time out to sub, comment, like, dislike, agree, disagree and so forth with your videos. Every comment or sub that you get gives that feeling that, in a certain if mostly insignificant way... you matter.
 
The numbers frustrated me sometimes considering how much I work on the videos and don't get results which kinda lowers my motivation to do videos. Also I get super frustrated consider I run a gaming channel and gaming is so hard to reach anything. I was able to get to 1,000 subs in the 2 years I been uploading videos but I still want more. One of my dreams is to be able to do this for living which will be really hard and I feel like it is impossible now days.

I enter a world that is so hard ._. I see one of my classmates from college that keeps gaining subs and views and get really down. Working so hard on everything and seeing no results well it is frustrating. I think I am repeating everything again so I'll stop lol.
 
It's just human nature to want more and to raise your standards over time. When someone wants more and is successful we say they're "ambitious". And if it's someone we don't like, we say they're "greedy".;)

Most people have that desire to want to move up to the next level, particularly YouTubers because they are already sticking their neck out and doing something creative unlike so many other people, and those numbers are always in our faces every day.

The key is to make sure you enjoy the journey too, not just trying to hit goal after goal. You can exhaust yourself always chasing the next thing, stop and smell the roses once in a while.

And remember, be careful what you wish for: there are lots of people who win the lottery and mess up their lives and are back to being poor after a few years.

Let's call me ambitious then :p And I am one of the most careful people I know when it comes to money (and life in general, that's why it took me 5 years to start my channel...) so I don't think I will mess up that easily, I hope, if it ever comes to that :p

This is exactly what happened to me, I also made a thread similiar to this.
If you're at 0 subs, you will think 1 subscriber a day is a lot,
if you're at 100,000 subs, you will think 1 subscriber a day is NOTHING.
Goals change, people change, subscriber count changes,
You will raise your goal even if you're at 100,000 .
You will want to aim for 1,000,000.

When I first started, I never thought I would reach 100 subs, or even 1000 subs..
If someone had 10,000 subs he was already " youtube popular " for me

I am currently at a rate of 2 subs a day. Yesterday my count was -1, ruined my day. And then a bit later you think: WHY IS THIS IMPORTANT?? :p
 
Theres a thread at the moment talking about what are the rewards of running a channel. Replies are things like nice comments and changing peoples day. I and i imagine most people see more people watching the videos as more chances to get the rewards mentioned in that thread.
 
My other love is musical theatre, and something feels great about hearing people cheer their heads off after you sing "Stars." I think that's what also holds true to YouTube for me, having an appreciative audience. Likes and comments remind me of applause, and views the audience attendance. I'll also shamelessly admit to me being a bit of friendless, single, longer in my real life, and YT is probably filling an unhealthy void-lol.
