Why the sudden spike in views?

So last night a friend of mine said he'd share one of my videos where ever he could of in which got it another 20 views which I thought awesome that's great! with being a small channel 20 views is a lot for me. However I got up today, it was initially at the views it was left at when I went to bed (which was 40) then a few hours later I refreshed and it jumped up to 555, another hour later 1770, another hour later 2804 and I cannot fathom for the life of me where all these views are coming from and why none of those new views have commented, liked/disliked. It did however actually happen where the video when I first uploaded it jumped to 56 views which made me think great! then it got revoked back to 18 and sat at 18 for a good while until last night.

This is exactly what the Analytics section of the dashboard is for.

You likely won't be able to see the analytics for the video yet if it's new, but wait a few days, then go to Creator Studio -> Analytics. Once there type in the name of your video in the bar at the top. The video should pop up underneath, select it.

Now on the left hand side there's a list of different analytics, one of them says "Traffic sources". Click that.

Now you'll be able to see where the views on that video came from. :)

The video it self is roughly 5 days old, I'm aware of the analytics I just find the sudden spike extremely unusual. I have a few videos with 1000+ views but I've never received them all within day. The 'real time' analytics show that the views all happened within a space of 2 hours which has got me thinking that a view bot has been put onto it which will frustrate me if it has, as well it doesn't help your page in anyway if anything it'll lower the rank of the video because they'll be low retention. I'm just hoping they're legitimate.

Thank you for the response JesusGreen.

Got that too on one of my vids. But don't worry, the rank of the video will rise since those bots will watch the whole video. The only problem I have with those people doing that on my videos is - why the f**k would you spent your money on that if you try to support a little YouTuber? I mean there are the simple ways which work too like share around and telling yer friends about that one cool guy making funny/cool stuff in YouTube.

After all I even wrote the YouTube Staff for that and they responded in - and I'll just sum it up since it was a bit lot of text - they were aware of that but also aware that the quality of those videos (from me) are high-quality and it's just normal that more and more people come cos of channel growth. Or much shorter - they don't give a flying f**k cos your content seems good and also they may enjoy it aswell.

I mean I looked at your channel and everything looks professional AF. As if you've gained much experience on YouTube before you opened your channel.
I'm just saying don't be worry about people doing things nobody gets why the f**k they do that, just carry on having fun making videos and awesome content. After all, there is a specific reason why people would do that.

I'll have to check the average view duration once the proper analytics come through as obviously real time analytics don't show view duration. I can't fathom why someone would pay for views, I'd sooner have someone look at my video and if they've enjoyed it share it with a friend or just drop a comment, having (now 3700 on that video) views doesn't mean much to me without feedback. A friend of mine recommended me viewbotting when I first starting taking my channel more seriously to boost my channel up, but i'd sooner see a nice gradual growth of people who genuinely like what I upload.
I can't imagine YouTube will really care if it's netting them some ad revenue but it still shouldn't go on.

Also thank you with the response about my channel, I have been putting quiet a bit of time into it these past few weeks I'm still far from where I want to be in terms of video quality but I'm slowly learning.

Battlefield 1 funny moments... Game is new and you can build up an audience with the game if you want to, that is maybe 1 of the reasons why that has happened.

Possibly, I just find it unusual that for the last 5 days or so it's had about 86 (if you add in the revoked views) in 5 days to suddenly jump up to almost 4000 just seems highly unusual. Who knows it may have possible appeared in a lot of peoples recommended videos.

Maybe that's why? One of your friend's share suddenly took off? Just do what @JesusGreen said in a couple of days, and you'll see where it came from.

I've seen a few of my videos get that kind of spike in the past with no extra interaction within the same time limit (2-4 hours, I don't remember exactly but within a few hours) and when I checked the "traffic sources" > "external", the video was shared in some site I never knew existed.

So yea, check the analytics for the specific video to get the specific traffic source for the video in a few days to get closure. X3

Let's hope he is using something like google ADWords and not using a view bot. View botting could get your channel fked over.

It's probably because you're using current trends as your video idea. Funny moments videos are also popular in FPSes
