Why monetize your videos?

Hi guys,

So i've been seeing loads of small channels monetizing their videos even though by their view count they cant be making enough money for it to be worth while surely?

I have always said I would not consider monetizing my videos unless I thought i'd be able to earn enough money to fund bigger and better videos.

Is there some other kind of hidden benefit that i am not seeing here or are these people just doing it for the few pennies?

nope, no benefit really, probably so they can get custom thumbs, it sickens me how they give these exclusive features away to anybody now, makes youtube partners sink into every other youtuber

Well it adds up over time.. You may not get the money tomorrow.. But they are still making money. I started monetixing as soon as they gave me the option. OUr first video is horrible, yet still gets views and is still bringing in the pennies and eventually those pennies will add up.. Also Yotube is putting ads on your videos any way and making money so why not take a few pennies from them?

Exactly what I was going to say. Even though we gain a little here and there, it WILL add up eventually, and we'll be able to do something with that money. So why not start earning as soon as you can? ^.^

I don't have the monetizing option turned on and I do have custom thumbnails and all the extra features, so it's really just about the money.

Personally I want to wait until I get at least a thousand views, because my channel is so tiny that I don't want to risk anybody not seeing my videos because they're fed up with the ads and click away.

I mainly started for the point of custom thumbnails, which I deem can be important sometimes in the chance of getting a view or not, because it shows if you put time into making a decent thumbnail.
But also as others said, it adds up over time on those older videos that may earn more views if you start gaining a bit of a subscriber/view base, even if they are terrible.

I know what you mean, and I personally had this mentality with my second channel. But... Somebody (I forgot who, it was a while ago :-/) brought up how people shouldn't give up on a video just because there's an ad there. They can wait 5 seconds to skip it, and then check out your video. Or, you could only enable the in-video ads that just need to be X'ed out.

But yeah, I guess people are just really impatient these days. It kind of sucks. :-/

As an old youtuber I always & only wanted to become partner just for the brags, when I finally become a partner… errbody getting partnered, including the ones that are continuing making terrible videos.

Money is money. I think making money only on youtube are for those who are willing to get better on their videos, using the money they've earned to get better tools to enhance their content. Kinda like photography, we work our way up from a crappy camera to pro. But they're just there for the money and does not progress then that was just a waist of time.

Nope, I have it enabled but no videos have it on my channel, also I don't think they put it on videos that have don't have it enabled unless the video has ContentID claims.
