Why is Pewdiepie so Popular?

Yeah I think it was a combination of him being one of the first big gaming channels and being on YouTube in the early days. I don’t watch gaming channels so I can’t comment on if his videos are particularity good or not.

I do think though, that some channels can get to a point where people are more likely to subscribe just because of how many subscribers that channel already has. For example, I think more people (generally speaking) are likely to subscribe to a channel with over 1 million subscribers than they are to a channel with 1000 or so. Would anyone else agree with that?
Yes also youtube's logic of the "big stay big and small stay small"

In case no one noticed, youtube's subscriptions do have an order, no not the first channel you subscribed to that takes first place, but the channel with the most subscribers

For an example subscribe to me (13 subs) then sub smosh (17M) then nigahiga (11M) then pewdiepie (25M) or you can just re order it as you like.

You will notice pewdiepie will always be number 1 whatever you do.

I don't really understand why youtube promotes a channel with a huge gap between it and the #2 channel, pewdiepie already has a monstrous subscriber gain.

More subs=more traffic
More traffic=more ads
More ads=more money
And the small people get a trench club up their butt

True. The more traffic your channel has then the more common place your videos will be an that naturally leads to more subscribers.[DOUBLEPOST=1395147060,1395146882][/DOUBLEPOST]

I never realised this - it is weird that they feel the needs to promote the most popular channels more than the lesser ones. You'd think YouTube would benefit from having the traffic spread out instead of just around a few heavy hitting channels. I mean what if Pewdiepie stopped making videos tomorrow? (unlikely, I know) but it leaves YT more vulnerable.

I respect him but like I mention one time before what I don't like is his fandom who are obsessive with him and that what cause some hate on him because of his fandom

I subbed to someone with only 600+ subs yesterday, some of the people I sub to I'm their first sub. I don't sub to people because they have a lot of subs, I sub to people who I like.

Good for you, but I think you missed what I was saying.

That's what my answer was based on. I don't sub to people because they have subs...... Was there a hidden message? lol

You saying ‘I don’t sub anyone because they have a lot subscribers’ misses my point. I wasn’t asking what makes you subscribe to a channel (or anything similar). I was saying that I think bigger YouTubers benefit from their size by having momentum around their channels and they get hyped up and get people subscribing because of that hype, not for their content. I don’t think smaller channels benefit from this as people (generally) tend to pay more attention to the channels with bigger fan bases, and because of that bigger channels grow cumulatively and end up having +25 million subscribers (eg Pewdiepie, Jenna Marbels etc). It was a topic open for discussion…
I assume from your response that you don’t agree that bigger channels don’t benefit from their size? But you seemed to want to make a point that it doesn’t matter to you personally how many subs a channel has. Nice to know, but not really relevant.
