Why doesn't Youtube do this?

Why Not have Categories? Why? Youtube is the second biggest search engine in the world, doesn't it makes sense to make the searches more manageable?

It seems they have this for the PS3 Youtube app....

You could still search "All" if you wanted, but there would be a "Gaming" Section, a "Comedy" Section, a "Vlog" section and so on... Doesn't this seem like you would have more of a chance of being found with a system like this?

Is this already around and I'm just an idiot? hahaa

No, those are just suggesting channels.... I'm talking categories.... It would make it easier for viewers to search what they're looking for and I as a creator can upload to specific categories so it's easier for my videos to be found.... Doesn't this make sense or am I missing something why this hasn't been implemented yet?

I think I get what you are saying. Right now I put tags that say animals, cats, dogs, etc. But a category that was just "Animals" when you upload to YouTube might be beneficial. I don't know because I don't know how the search engine works.

I think it's because it limits a video's viewership. I've started off watching one video and then later found myself in a completely different video subject matter, I think if they were based on categories that would mess with the beauty of discovery those random videos.

It would help when I'm looking for a certain type of video just to browse through a category, good suggestion. Maybe you can send them a message?

bhaha, I'm sure they would listen to me... I don't know, like I said... the default would be to do a general search like we do now..... but if you wanted you could pick a category... I don't know... seems logical to me...

I think the word you're looking for here is "filters", which YouTube lacks. There are some basic search functionalities that seem to be missing, such as searching within a particular channel. Some channels have hundreds of videos and it would make things easier to be able to search a particular channel. I understand you can put the channel name in your search bar but there should be a better way to filter.

I would love it if you could add your comedy music is as main Music category with another sub category called "Comedy" or "humor"

Didn't they used to have categories back in the day? I feel like I remember that. I may be wrong though!

I seem to recall that, too. Of course, this would rely heavily on the creators categorizing correctly, and a lot of mitigating between users who flag miscategorized content and the creators who try to game the system. Really, YouTube is just a huge video search engine more than anything at this point, so categorization would be an enormous task, and would leave a lot of creators (especially new creators) without the casual views that help build up a channel.
