Why do people hide their subs? I’m curious.

Just as a friendly update I unhid my subbox in January and since then I've jumped from two dozen subs or so to nearly 80...I've also started getting comments asking why my channel grows so rediculously slowly xD...I've only ever wanted to hit 100...anything after thats a bonus for me...so to jump nearly 50 subs in 4 months is always a plesent surprise :)
 
the one person that comes to mind that hid their sub count hid it because they felt it was keeping people from subscribing. He figured that people see less than 30 subscribers and they think something might be wrong with the channel. People are funny that way, not wanting to subscribe unless other people subscribe first??? One can always go back and unhide it later.
