Why do people hide their subs? I’m curious.

People seem to think if you have a high amount of subs more people will subscribe so if you hide people won't know and it leaves them to watch your content to decide whether they want to subscribe or not. This is becoming more and more common which is quite sad really. YouTube is supposed to be fun and I think a lot of new channels are forgetting this.
Fun to make, yes! Not fun when trolls come around to start nonsense with me. If they do that with me, they'll do that to my subs. That is NO FUN! LOL

I run several channels and I keep one of the channels' sub no. in secret. I believe the content matters, not the sub no. It's none of ur biz in fact.

Y'know... this threads really made me think...Im going to try an experiment next month and make my subs visible to see what happens...if my numbers improve I'll leave it visible if not I'll keep it hidden till I feel better about them...im just curious as to whether it will effect other people's perception of my channel :)

As long as subscriber count, own subscriptions, like/dislike count etc.
are an option to be shown or not (by channels options I mean)
I do not care if one shows or hide them.

But I wonder maaaaaany times why most people hide who are they subscribed.
Is is too many? Is it embarrashing? Why they don't share their friends and (ehm...)
from where do they get ideas?

Just an update for anyone who would care: I've literally had one of the most turbulent 4 days in my entire channels run since making my sub count visible. I changed it on the 1st just after midnight where I am and over 3 days my views have Lurched quite significantly (Though I am running adwords so that may have had quite a significant effect there) and I've gained 7 subscribers and lost 3...I dont know what to make of that quite honestly...today I've had a mad SEO session, I've tweaked some of my descriptions and i've also upscaled half a dozen of my older videos thumbnails so that they're now Hi-res...all in it took me nearly 3 and a half hours...I'll probably run another update at some point in a week or so's time if anything significant comes of these changes. But so far Im deeply confused xD pleasently surprised that I've had a 4 sub net gain...but a bit concerned I've lost 3 people...

You didn't lose 3 people by making your sub count invisible. Why do they care about that?

Well Im not saying they're directly related; Im just saying that since I made my subcount visible I've had 3 people unsubscribe from me and 7 people subscribe to me. both are events that have never happened on my channel (I've never had 7 people sub me in 4 days, nor have I had 3 people unsub me in 4 days) and I've done nothing different other than make my subcount visible...so I dont know why thats happened but Im just keeping track of things to see if theres a significant leap in or out of subs while my counts visible. thats all ;)

I'm not sure, I don't have a problem with people hiding nor making their subscribers visible. Not at all. I think the reason is because they think that viewers' first impression are the content creators subs, and if they don't have that many subs, even though there content may be on point, it may drive them away from subscribing. I'm not sure. But either way, I don't mind if people do or don't.

I don't know If I've replied to this thread or not, but if not, I do remember attempting to answer a question like this on a different thread. But I think it's because people think it will deter potential subs from watching their videos, let alone subscribing. I don't know how true this is, but I am trying an experiment to see if it actually changes channel growth and what not :P
