Why do people hide their subs? I’m curious.

or be like me and don't realize you have it off for like the first year of youtube.[DOUBLEPOST=1517254849,1517254770][/DOUBLEPOST]also i feel that once i really and i mean REALLY stop caring about my subcount/numbers my channel started growing

is it because they want to seem like they are more popular? Are they not doing it for the subs? If that were the case why would it matter? Im just curious because it just comes off a little sketchy to me for some reason.
Wrong assumption. I hide mine because my topics are controversial, and I don't want anybody lurking around trying to attack, harass, or bother my subs. There's too many trolls running around. That is why!

I can’t speak for everyone, but I know that poppy hides their subscribers because they don’t think it’s important and they want to keep it mysterious it kinda of goes with the character that poppy

Like what everyone else has said, one reason is to not give a bad first impression. People see a low number and may assume that a channel is bad because if it wasn't they would have more subscribers. I'm guilty of this myself. On the other end, I think you are making it harder for people to connect with you. They don't get to be apart of that journey of seeing a channel they like to grow and become bigger.

Same thoughts with most on this thread. however, I think the average casual person who watches Youtube doens't even notice the sub count. they're more into the actual content being made.

Good point, but I still don't like trolls following me around and getting their friends to bother me. I'm ultra-quick to block, but don't want to let them loose on my subscribers. Interesting quandary!

Because they think that it will get people to watch their content. Low subscriber numbers keep the grand majority of people from watching your content. Once you hit 100K people will watch utter crap and support you because you are a big YouTuber, it is the Sheep effect. Or lemming effect, take your pick. That 100K subscriber mark is the key to making a living off YouTube.

I never hid mine. I have nothing to hide and was comfortable at 1 subscriber and comfortable at the 5,000 I have now.

I hid mine for like a day, it was my first time as a creator and it was for the sake of using the option as much as anything else, the novelty, as soon as I came across another channel with a hidden count and saw what it looks like from the outside I went and changed it.
