Why do i hate my old favorite youtubers

Has this ever happened to you?? I have been watching youtube since the beginning and over the years i have come to love certain youtubers..But i always find that as they grow more popular and i start watching all their videos, i start to lose interest. They start to make the same stuff, or they start trying to force out weekly videos and their quality goes to crap, or they sell out and start spamming their videos with product placements.
Production also kills a lot of my interest. When a youtuber is smaller they are forced to work around money situations like i have, when they start getting brand deals their relatability starts to fade. If you have a cooking series that everybody watches and you are cooking out of a normal stove one day, then the next day you got a $10,000 set up, your avg cook is going to start thinking "this is too advanced for me"

So why do you hate your old favorite youtubers?

And more importantly, what are some important things you would take into consideration if your channel blew up?
 
Familiarity breeds contempt, I guess. But also, the points you highlight are good ones. YouTube is primarily for "home grown" content, and once you get past that aesthetic, then you're working with just another corporate-created video or series or whatever. I don't hate any of my YouTube original subscriptions, but I have unsubscribed to those who seem to be doing little but advertising for their sponsors or pushing things that they want to sell. I totally understand that people have to make a living, but doing it in a way that doesn't feel like I'm being asked for money every time I visit a channel is a delicate balancing act.
 
It's probably because you are no longer watching their videos through the eyes of a simple "viewer". You're now a creator yourself and so you're watching them through a much more critical eye.

A few years ago, I started doing quite a bit of creative writing and I got very interested in the writing of screenplays. I noticed that it completely ruined the experience of reading novels and watching movies because instead of enjoying the content, I'd be analysing the writing techniques, style etc.
 
I felt like this with the Joe Rogan Experience, it used to be ad-free, then suddenly the first 10 minutes of either 2 or 3 hours was him advertising his side-projects. But you can always skip it and tbh for free 3 hour interviews with inteteresting people, I can put up with a short ad. It's these vloggers who put out a video just like; Sony paid me to tell you to buy their new product - here it is buy it now. Although it's probably mainly jealousy, and although at this point I think I wouldn't do it, it's possible if my channel blew up, I might do it, to put an extra storey on my house. ;)
 
I find my humor is changing all the time.
I went from being a daily pewdiepie viewer to being firmly entrenched in the dark side of youtube, actively following Filthy Frank and co.

Interests change, I suppose.
 
I mainly watch gaming videos, and for me I start hating the youtuber because they do not criticize the game anymore. They praise it even with flaws all in the hopes that devs/publishers will give them special attention. It just happened to this game I was interested and the YTer has been receiving special attention.
 
They lose interest in the stuff they make, but it's the only that pays the bills, so they obviously release content without interest, and their fanboys are too blind to realize it. That's pretty much how I stopped liking James Rolfe, with the added fact he is making more let's plays that interesting videos
 
I guess it could be a mixture of things. You change, but so do your favourite youtubers.

It may be more them than you though. I discovered the vlogbrothers about a year and a half ago - then proceeded to binge watch them for about 4 vlog years. I was with them from when they were nothing (they were really big at the time irl) and then as they got bigger and bigger they sort of reached a space where I thought they weren't as intouch with individuals anymore (like their community got too big. although I think they do a good job.)

There was a point where they were getting bigger and bigger and gaining momentum, they were beginning to think they could take on the world. It was ace viewing. But then after that came the sense that they were established. Still good, just not as good. Idk

Odd that you chose cooking show as your example. That's what I chose to do, seemed right seeing as I am a chef.

Hopefully I won't end up doing this if things go really well. Since I am so poor I do things with normal kitchen equipment... my most recent video is about making breadcrumbs without a food processor, as a chef I was taught once that a french cooks knife is all you really need and would like to teach that in my show too I suppose.

I do want to make money though, and think there is nothing wrong with that, at least enough to cover the shows costs. That would be nice. Millions? yeah I'd take millions - but I like to think I would do something community driven, give back.

I decided to monetize right from the get go - which probably doesn't make a lot of sense and is a bad idea - I just think that I don't want to alienate people later, might as well be honest and upfront about it now.

Only thing is I might have changed my mind because of patreon, might go down the keep it add free, volunteer your money route.

I just don't know.
 
I watch a lot of LPers and YouTube cover artists and for me it's not so much that their content evolved to a point that I don't like it anymore, but the LPer or annalist isn't touching on a subject, or playing a game I really like or want to watch. So for the LPers, I check in periodically when they're playing a game I'm interested in seeing.

There was one YouTube cover artist who started coming out with original stuff and in the description of the orig vid there was something along the lines of "I hope you guys all like my serious work" when before they were covering a lot of anime songs and stuff and it really just turned me off from their channel for some reason. Like, idk I felt sort of like well what was all the anime covers for if you didn't like producing them too? I know it was probably me being overly sensitive to the comment but it really felt like a sort of rude thing to say and stopped me from watching their stuff, so I guess a channel getting bigger, and losing sight of what made their channel great/got them the viewers also is a factor to me. But, if they get big, have affiliates and sponsors and are pretty up front about it while not changing their content I'm pretty ok with it - Game Theory comes to mind when I think of that, though I know they had some backlash from a sponsored video a while back.

If my channel blew up I'd really just get better production quality lol - like I'd really love to be able to hire animators, musicians etc etc, but I plan to use patreon instead of ad revenue if ever I come to the point of making money at this. But who knows: If a sponsor approached me, I'd probably be game for making a video for them as long as it stays true to what my channel is about.
