Who uses External Hard drives? which one should i get?

I would steer clear of WD. While, I really enjoyed their product in the past. I've been burned one too many times. One of my externals the casing went bad and on another external from WD the drive fell onto carpet once and boom there she went. Upon opening that drive up to swap casings I was rather surprised to find how little was actually holding the drive in. My replacement ended up being similar to the Toshiba canvio basics HD you showed of which I can't really complain about except the cable used to connect with is extremely short.

I use a 500GB External Hard Drive that I bought 2 years ago for 50€.
I think it's a Buffalo but not 100% sure.

I always use WD drives.

Have several USB3.0 passport drives, and my Drobo has a RAID array with WD Red hard drives.
Ive never had a WD external drive fail on me.

We've come to a point in technology where hard disks have been refined so far that they are all pretty much the same, just with various brand names. I work with computer networks and have seen drives of all makes fail in the past.

Saying that, Ive recently switched to ThunderBolt connected drives now. So my main Drobo 5D is connected via ThunderBolt, but I still went with WD as it has a WD Red drive array, which are drives specifically designed for NAS environments.

I also now use a 1TB Buffalo Ministation ThunderBolt - purely because WD dont have a portable Thunderbolt drive. Its also been equally as good IMO.
